Pot votes in 2 states challenge US drug war | US National Headlines | Comcast

DENVER — First came marijuana as medicine. Now comes legal pot for the people.

Those who have argued for decades that legalizing and taxing weed would be better than a costly, failed U.S. drug war have their chance to prove it, as Colorado and Washington became the first states to allow pot for recreational use.

While the measures earned support from broad swaths of the electorate in both states Tuesday, they are likely to face resistance from federal drug warriors. As of Wednesday, authorities did not say whether they would challenge the new laws.

We will become as corrupt and violent as Mexico, and we are well on our way already..
sad times indeed......:eusa_eh:

Federal drug laws trump State laws. I would suggest that any State that passes laws in violation of Federal law be cut off from Federal matching funds for ANY program until they change their laws to be in compliance with federal Law.

Spoken like a true Totalitarian Monster.

Fine, The Feds can keep their money. States should stop gathering Federal income tax then.

Or

States gather Federal Income Tax, pay State bills with it, then send the rest to the Feds! I'm all for that!

if people in a State want something changed they should be able to do it.....if you dont like what they changed......dont visit that State....

and some States send a hell of a lot of money to DC....so that will never happen....

The war on drugs is a failure....it's time for it to end....for pot anyway.

Kudos to Washington and Colorado for firing the shot across the bow.

It's the banning of pot and the risk involved that brings in criminals, NOT legalization. Read the history of Prohibition. Biggest aid to growth The Mob had in its early days. Legalize pot and the criminals' profit disappears.

Both measures remove criminal penalties for adults over 21 possessing small amounts of the drug — the boldest rejection of pot prohibition laws passed across the country in the 1930s.

it's time for the 1930s to catchup to the 21st Century.

Where better to open shop then a place where a ton of people constantly with the munchies! LOL

That is not how the Commerce or Supremacy Clause works!

Whats next- meth , heroin , crack, what about prescription drugs,is morphine ok,may-be OxyContin, Valium , is LSD ok ? why not? some prefer others drugs to pot. if pot is ok,what about hashish ? it comes from the pot plant, are mushrooms ok ?

How come you're not asking about alcohol? Don't you think we should be banning that too, while we're at it? Of all the things you mentioned plus alcohol, pot is the least detrimental to health. BTW, had an acquaintance that got herself messed up on heroin, crack and pills, but it was the alcohol that killed her.

President Obama "evolved" on gay marriage, once he saw there was an electoral advantage to do so. With a little ongoing pressure, we can get him to "evolve" on marijuana legalization as well.

Yeah!!!! Totally, dude. Like slippery slope logical fallacy, er whatever, cuz like alcohol is a gateway drug, man.
