I don't have any earlier examples of clearly manufactured news. It took Deep State over a century to recover from Andrew Jackson's abolition and dismantling of the Second Bank of the United States.

The Third Bank of the United States (Federal Reserve) came back in the early 20th century, along with the income tax (16th amendment) and the disenfranchisement of the Several States as an equal power under the Founders federalist system (17th Amendment), as it was the Several States whose legislatures appointed the Senators during Andrew Jackon's time to abolish the Second Bank of the United States. Thus the Deep State (a global cabal of banks and corporations existing since the Imperial Age) finally resumed its stranglehold on the United States via its worthless fiat currencies, income tax and virtual elimination of the States (17th) check on the federal government.

In the early 20th century Deep State was too busy in Russia, China, Germany, Japan, Korea, Cuba, etc, installing far-left genocidal gun-grabbing regimes, but the Great Hydra finally infested and infected the US Federal Government beyond cure, and so JFK attempted to restore Precious Metal Backed Currency to the united States to cut out the poison entirely...for that he was assassinated, the beginning of Fake News in the United States.
