Only six black senators have served: three Republicans and three Democrats, including the future President Barack Obama (D-IL).
If you didn't hear, Obama's Senate Seat is an (R) now.
As for why no Blacks in the Senate is News?... The same reason that it was Projected that there would be Less Women in Congress after Yesterday's "Tea Party" Driven Vote.
Racists and Sexists were Victorious Yesterday... <At least that's the Narrative you will be Hearing.
Of course the First Latina to be Elected Governor in the Union is a REPUBLICan and that happened Yesterday also:

^Not getting the Coverage it would if that "First" had been for the DemocRATS.
Because REPUBLICans are Racists and Sexists... Even when they vote for Hispanic Women to be Governor.
