CNN/MSNBC FreeFall...

There are more conservative news/politics junkies than there are liberal news/politics junkies.
That's really all there is to it.

And they all flock to Fox, because to check in with CNN would mean they might need to question one of their positions, and it makes for a much happier person to have all those positions verified right on tv.

The Media is not the Audience.

The Media is on average leftwing biased. The fact that viewers prefer Fox over the liberal competition doesn't mean their is less of that competition.

How many channels does the average person watch at the same time?

That is not the point.

Boedicca is quite correct in stating there is a liberal bias in the media. The popularity of Fox is due in part, to American's growing realization of this, and desire to hear/experience a more conservative bias - of which the majority of Americans subscribe to.

We remain a right of center nation...

But not that far right. I still say that CNN is the most fair and balanced and it's a middle-road approach that produces independents. If all anyone watches is a biased news channel, reads biased material, is only friendly with biased people with a similar thought process, then OF COURSE s/he is going to be brainwashed only in a single direction. I happen to enjoy all flavors of Kool-aid. [But right now, it's martini time.]

I would say this country is divided into 40% conservative, 40% liberals and 20% independent (leaning both left and right). However, the reason conservative media does so much better is because conservatives actually care about being informed and knowing what is going in America and the world. Liberals well don't. That is exactly the reason most liberals get their news from the daily show (while amusing is not the best source for news)!

By that statement alone, it would appear that you don't even understand what CONSERVATIVE media tells you. Such a dumb remark.

The Daily Show is closer to news than the crap Fox airs.

Not really. Conservatives are much more interested in personality programming. It's the reason liberal talk radio also doesn't sell well. You've also got to consider that liberals, on average, are tech-savvier, so they're using the web more.

Fox News actually attracts the most diverse/balanced viewership of any of the cable news networks.

Diversity of opinion is shared every day.

The news programs are top notch - and the commentator programs the most entertaining, and at times, most informative, and at other times, most ridiculous.

All in all, Fox News is #1 for a reason - it provides the most informative and entertaining news 24/7 vs its cable news competition.
____

Clear thinking Americans have always known that to be nonsense, and a brand new Pew survey proves it.

Their annual survey of cable news audiences now shows:

FNC: 39% Republican, 33% Democratic, 22% Independent
CNN: 18% Republican, 51% Democratic, 23% Independent
MSNBC: 18% Republican, 45% Democratic, 27% Independent

So when Fox News claims to be “Fair and Balanced” that apparently also extends to their audience. Does this mean that since it’s mostly Democrats who watch CNN and MSNBC that those channels are “left-wing propaganda outfits?”

I'm guessing the average age of someone who would qualify as a politics or news junkie is fairly high. I think it's accurate to say that liberals on average are younger than conservatives. Mathematically, all else being equal, that would lead to more conservative 'junkies'.

Not to mention that if CNN and MSNBC are splitting left leaners, and Foxnews has right leaners to itself, it only follows that Foxnews is going to have an easy time winning the ratings game. Kind of like a Democrat who might have to run against a Republican and a Tea Party candidate.

Those numbers can be skewed any number of ways. If you took collectively those who watch CNN and MSNBC, the total amounts to more than those who watch FOX. Also, if you go to the actual Pew Survey, and not just the analysis, you will note that network news has a huge share, as well as PBS (page 16).

Or, the numbers can really mean little when you think about it. To me, all they suggest is that people tend to channel surf.

Sure. That's why have a liberal president, a Democratic house, a Democratic Senate.

Yeah...

Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in All 50 States, Says Gallup Poll
Monday, August 17, 2009
By Terence P. Jeffrey, Editor-in-Chief

(CNSNews.com) - Self-identified conservatives outnumber self-identified liberals in all 50 states of the union, according to the Gallup Poll.

At the same time, more Americans nationwide are saying this year that they are conservative than have made that claim in any of the last four years.

In 2009, 40% percent of respondents in Gallup surveys that have interviewed more than 160,000 Americans have said that they are either “conservative” (31%) or “very conservative” (9%). That is the highest percentage in any year since 2004.

Only 21% have told Gallup they are liberal, including 16% who say they are “liberal” and 5% who say they are “very liberal.”

No need for the "now" qualifier. This has always been true.
