CNN/MSNBC FreeFall...

So eyeballs become the defining factor? Strange. I don't care what news program I have on (CNN, MSNBC, C-SPAN, the Sunday talk shows), I'm never plunked in front of the screen. I'm much more into actually listening to what they're saying. Unless of course it's some sort of show and tell.

Yes. Viewership for TV (or listenership in the case of radio and readership/subscribers in the case of print) is one of the key metrics for media success. It is the basis for setting advertising rates - or cable licensing fees.

It's not surprising that the former Elite Media are anti-Capitalist. They haven't found a way to adapt to technological innovations which are affecting their business models; nor have they updated their programming to respond to the democratization of information exchange. They are locked into the Top Down Messaging of the Old Oligarchy.

You mean CNN's female reporters need to be made up and dressed up so that they look like they'll crack if touched? Does Fox have an equivalent to Barbara Starr?

Well then where does Foxnews rate in primetime OVERALL? Vs. everything on tv, including the networks?

Are you asking how Fox News ranks against American Idol and Dancing With The Stars?

The valid comparisons are among cable news networks:

CNN does not play it down the middle - it has been a left leaning machine since its inception - not as bad as MSNBC, but certainly a clear liberal bias.

With the advent of the Internet age, and cable news competition, this fact became more easily available to consumers, who have left its viewership in droves.

Fox leans conservative, and its ratings reflect the fact that so too does the majority of America.

Fox rules - like or dislike it, that is the fact...

Of course it probably wouldn't occur to you that CNN is more left-leaning because the left is usually right.
___

So by that insightful thread of logic, the majority of America is "wrong"?

And please elaborate on how the "left is usually right".

Thank you!

So it would now fair to say that in sum total cable news is now net conservative biased?
Only if you wanted to be laughed out of the room.:lol::lol:

If Foxnews is supposedly getting more viewers than MSNBC and CNN combined then most people who get their news from a cablenews channel are getting it from a conservative biased channel, thus cablenews is net conservative.

No, the viewership has expressed a preference for Fox News Content - but there is more Net Liberal programming available overall from the other channels.

So you've proven there is no liberal bias in the media. Foxnews more than balances out any liberal bias on MSNBC and CNN.

Can we all agree on that then? It would certainly spare us having to hear that rightwing whine repeatedly.

The Media is not the Audience.

The Media is on average leftwing biased. The fact that viewers prefer Fox over the liberal competition doesn't mean their is less of that competition.

Why is that relevant?

How many channels does the average person watch at the same time?

That is not the point.

Boedicca is quite correct in stating there is a liberal bias in the media. The popularity of Fox is due in part, to American's growing realization of this, and desire to hear/experience a more conservative bias - of which the majority of Americans subscribe to.

We remain a right of center nation...

Sure. That's why have a liberal president, a Democratic house, a Democratic Senate.

My satellite tv has more movie channels, more shopping channels, and more sports channels than it does news channels.

That by your logic would make the media movie, shopping, and sports biased.

Conservatives Now Outnumber Liberals in All 50 States, Says Gallup Poll
Monday, August 17, 2009
By Terence P. Jeffrey, Editor-in-Chief

(CNSNews.com) - Self-identified conservatives outnumber self-identified liberals in all 50 states of the union, according to the Gallup Poll.

At the same time, more Americans nationwide are saying this year that they are conservative than have made that claim in any of the last four years.

In 2009, 40% percent of respondents in Gallup surveys that have interviewed more than 160,000 Americans have said that they are either “conservative” (31%) or “very conservative” (9%). That is the highest percentage in any year since 2004.

Only 21% have told Gallup they are liberal, including 16% who say they are “liberal” and 5% who say they are “very liberal.”

It's the accurate response to the question. We are discussing the nature of the TV News Media. The ratio of Left-leaning tv stations outweighs the right leaning one.

If you wish to discuss whether or not news consumers lean left or right, that is a different topic. More Americans self-identify as conservative than liberal. The ratios are roughly 40% conservative, 40% independent, and 20% liberal (Gallup study).

No, it just means you watch far too much TV...

Can you guys hustle this up. Second quarter stats will be out soon and we could use a break in between. Seriously, is there a correlation between decreased CNN/MSNBC ratings and the shift toward conservative voting? That would be an interesting thing to watch when the second quarter stats come out.

I have 200 channels and watch about 5 of them on a regular basis.

We have approximately a 60 - 40 Democratic Senate and a 60 - 40 Democratic House. I find it hard to believe that you can get those numbers with twice as many conservatives as liberals in the country.

That either means that many more independents lean left over right. Or that many people who identify themselves as conservatives are really that conservative.

My other point was that fewer liberals than conservatives are political junkies.

I would say this country is divided into 40% conservative, 40% liberals and 20% independent (leaning both left and right). However, the reason conservative media does so much better is because conservatives actually care about being informed and knowing what is going in America and the world. Liberals well don't. That is exactly the reason most liberals get their news from the daily show (while amusing is not the best source for news)!
