Maine Police Arrest Machete-Wielding Clown
Jul 27, 2017 -- It's the stuff nightmares are made of.

Police say an intoxicated man wearing a menacing clown mask and carrying a machete walked along a road in Hollis Tuesday night, prompting numerous calls to police. Maine State Police furnished this photo of the man, later identified as Corey Berry.

Maine State Police Trooper Adam Schmidt told WCSH-TV that a 911 call came in just after 6 p.m. Tuesday reporting the man wearing the mask and wielding the machete as he walked on Plains Road near the Little Mart. A witness said the man then ran into the woods.

Police say an intoxicated man wearing a menacing clown mask and carrying a machete walked along a road in Hollis Tuesday night, prompting numerous calls to police.​

When police arrived, they initially were unable to find the man, but just after 7 p.m., they saw him pop out of the woods near on Townhouse Road in Waterboro. Schmidt told the Portland news station that 31-year-old Corey Berry of Hollis was very intoxicated but cooperated with police. Berry told them he was trying to play a prank and copied previous creepy clown sightings.

Berry had been wearing a white and red clown mask with a black hood. The machete was duct taped to Berry's arm, which apparently had been amputated, police said. Berry was taken into custody and charged with criminal threatening. He was transported to York County Jail and posted $200 bail.
