Closest thing I've seen to calling on the bullshit...

Well Bobby already got it wrong. Lincoln didn't free the slaves.

Though ironically, Republicans always reference that perhaps because they haven't done anything good since 1865?
there you go again

proving what a partisan hack you are

yeah funny his partisanship doesn't also say how obama got it wrong by saying america invented the automobile

That's about the only thing he got wrong.

It was a great speech. He outlined in simple terms exactly what we have to do.

It was nice to hear a president talk about real problems instead of the bogus "war on terror."

yeah, cause like Michael Moore said "there is no terrorist threat" right?

The greatest threat to American security is our dependence on foreign oil.

50 guys in a cave in Pakistan with no army, no navy, and no air force is not a threat to a country of 300 million people.

yeah and we celebrate american independence on July 4th from 1776 even tho the war ended in 1783

Actually, most delegates signed the Declaration of Independence on August 2, 1776.

The reason we use 1776 and not 1783 is because America's legal seperation from Great Britain was passed on that day.

If you had actually read the Emancipation Proclamation, you would see that nowhere in the document does it state that U.S. slaves were free. Rather, enemies of the United States that had slaves were free. And since the Confederacy had left the United States, guess what they were considered?

Lincoln acted like he freed the slaves in order to hurt the South by allowing a great portion of their labor to run away even at the risk of their own lives because they thought they would get freedom in the North.

Slavery wasn't Abolished until December 6, 1865 and even then it was still kept as punishment for a crime.

America was free legally on that date, so its two entirely different things.

Why should I care exactly when something significant happened as long as someone wrote down the date?

Sometimes the devil is indeed in the details...

Not only all that, but I am 3 weeks into a new gig that I am starting to like which I might be able to make some money at. Pretty cool, huh?

gay escort business getting stimulus money I see?

Fear not 2382, that is not my style; I'll not cut into your action. You need not hire a lobbyist on my account.

The United States never recognized the confederacy as its own country...I am pretty sure no other country did either...could be wrong there

If no other country recognized their independence from the union, aren't they still part of the union and under authority of the President?

No. The Confederacy considered itself a separate union, which is why the war occurred in the first place. The Confederacy was never fighting to control the north, only to remain their own separate entity. They lost, and so they remained a part of the United States. During the war, regardless of what laws were passed in the US, the Confederacy did not follow them. However, in the eyes of the Union, it meant the states of the Confederacy were breaking the law.

Saying that the Confederacy had to follow the laws of the Union during the war is like saying the colonies had to follow the laws of Great Britain during the American Revolution. The point of separating is because you don't WANT to follow their laws.

More unnecessary details.

We're here - we're, among other things, queer... Can we please quit bitching and finish the infrastructure?

We can agree... There's hope.

If I didn't like the proverb below so well, I'd be tempted to use this as a quote in my sig line...:eusa_whistle:

Yes, the first Republican president signed the Emancipation Proclamation and IMO he was our greatest president, but that was 146 years ago. What if we go back about half that time to the days prior to WWII when the Republican party was taking Nazi Germany's money and was infiltrated with facists? Only when the isolationist movement showed itself to be disasterous did the Republican party get with the program.

Politics is often a case of what have you done for me lately, and the Republican party has not got the job done. Since 9/11 any disagreement with Bush and Republicans were quick to throw out the unpatriotic label. However Republicans are quick to criticize our new president.

I am not sure whether Obama's idealism will work, he may be in fact derailed by his own party. I question if the gigantic bailout money will be spent wisely. American has gotten itself in a hole and last time I looked Bush and Cheney had shovels in their hands.

I believe a major problem in this country is the lack of honest debate. We are quick to namecall and exagerate. For example: Bush is a facist! Obama is a Stalinist! For this I place a large part of the blame on the media. As far as I am concerned guys like Limbaugh, Hannity and Oberman are leaches on American society who feed of fear and hate and make money dividing our country. And anyone who actually purchases a book written by Ann Coulter is intellectually deficit IMO.

One thing is certain. Politics and money and the money behind politics will never be the same.

The democrats had better get their hands out of the cookie jar and follow our new leader - they're just as busted as the republicans. This President is going to be popular.

Man, it was nice to see Nancy Pelosi and John McCain sweating and squirming on the same stage! They're corporate tit on K street is about to see the light of day.

yep,, ironic isn't it,, they are pushing the very thing that got us into this,, he is the shinning example of "here I'll show you how to live beyond your means." let me add another 10 trillion dollars of debt,, we can never hope to pay.

Like all politicians, he speaks out of both sides of his mouth, he just sounds better than most when he does it.

you forgot to mention out his ass as well.

As usual, I didn't LISTEN to the speech.

I'll probably read the text of it later today.

You should look for it on you-tube... the delivery and watching McCain and Pelosi squirm and sweat on the same stage were priceless!

Closest thing I've seen to calling bullshit on the bullshit...

Thank you Mr. President.

-Joe

Obama called his own policies bullshit? At least he's being honest.

He called bullshit on the greed that is the net result of 'Intelligence' forming the blood of 'cash-flow'.

-Joe

So he's countering it by borrowing over $1 trillion that the taxpayers will eventually have to pay off. :clap2:

um, McCain wasnt ON any stage

are you sure you really know ANYTHING about politics?

McCain was certainly in the audience and shown on the cameras squirming in his seat enough to be on last nights national stage... at least on NBC.

My view seems to be a bit more of the bigger picture than some on this board, but yeah, I know a little about American political history.
