Many folks meaning well have decided there is no way Trump can win the General Election. I beg to disagree. There are two statistics that I turn to, to come to my conclusion.

The polls often ask how voters feel about the direction of the country. It's overwhelmingly in favor of the Wrong Direction. Between the right Direction and the Wrong direction, voters have said 61-70% of the time that our country is headed in the wrong direction. And it reflects in both parties. Bernie Sanders is a socialist and has garnered more popular votes than anyone thought he would get. And Trump is the anti establishment candidate. Those two candidates make up the Sanders and Trump disaffected vote.. Together, they are stronger than Clinton by a long shot.

Clinton's Gotten The Most Votes, But GOP Has More Overall

But the GOP has gotten more total votes because of its larger field of candidates. Republicans have shattered turnout records across the country this year, as NPR's Danielle Kurtzleben has reported.

Based on totals maintained by The Green Papers, which tracks primaries and caucuses, here are the totals:

Direction of the Country - Wrong direction 61-

This election is unlike any other. It is about disgusted voters who are tired of the same 'ol politics as usual. It's about what is wrong with our politics and how our country has been run over by politicians worrying about themselves and not the people.

When Paul Ryan says he is not ready to support Trump and he is waiting to see if TRUMP falls in line with the Republican model....someone had better tell him he's got it backwards. The voters are telling the GOP they are out of sync with what the people want! Ryan had better take a good look at how Trump's policies are what our voters are clamoring for!

All pundits say Clinton is another Obama. Is that the direction the people want?

Look for a Trump win in November.

Paul lyin' Ryan.....first move to eliminate debt limit. Don't care what he say or do. He is little boner, another fake. Get him out! Despise the oroblems they leave our children.

Paul Ryan is no better than Bohner. Ryan had better look at what is happening...the people want what Trump advocates.

This election will certainly be a test of how much republican voters support tariffs, subsidies, taxing corporations, and taxing the wealthy. All part of Trump's platform.
I don't like subsidies but agree with the rest. Trump's platform is jobs, the wall and deportation for illegals. Provide a link about the subsidies, would you?

Not with Trump in the race. The guy is an electoral nightmare, and now he's trying to pivot and tell the country it's all been an act so far? Disastah!

Trump supported TARP, attacked Cruz for opposing ethanol subsidies, and supports subsidies for alternative energies. And his talk about "leveling the playing field with China..." guess what that would involve... yes, subsidies.

You are looney. He's not pivoting on anything.

And how many GOP candidates had to split that gop VOTE? 16?

Perhaps you don't understand the concept of polling here.

It's Clinton v. Trump, not Clinton v. 16 candidates.

It's Florida, where Trump beat Marco Rubio.

And in Florida, Clinton is crushing Trump.

Do you know what else is interesting? Hillary is leading 55-33 amongst females and 59-16 amongst Hispanics. And Florida has the most conservative Hispanics in the nation.

If you think Trump will win, you are going to have to come up with some plausible reasons why Trump - a man who has used the terms "pig," "dog" and "piece of ass" to describe women, not to mention calling Mexicans criminals and rapists - will not get crushed amongst women and Hispanics.

So your OP thesis has some ways to go.

Think the Donald can’t possibly become president? Here’s how it could happen. Unless the #NeverTrump people have been hiding a mad scientist with a DeLorean in a warehouse somewhere and haven’t gotten around to telling anybody, Donald J. Trump is now the certain Republican nominee for president of the United States. True to form, having learned nothing from their yearlong string of overconfident and embarrassingly wrong predictions about voter behavior and preferences, the D.C. pundit class has already proclaimed him a general election loser. Not so fast. For the handful of polls that have Trump losing by double digits, there’s...
