Climate Scientist Warns Sea Levels Are Rising Faster Than We Thought

Is that a scientific term Frank? "A wisp of CO2? Are there milliwisps and Megawisps, kilowisps and atawisps. Have you worked out the feels like warming per wisp by long time?

You realize you're trying to reject hundred year old science. Your man Koch found tiny wisps of CO2 absorbed IR very efficiently. You're not throwing out Koch and Angstrom are you?

Crick you ever going to explain how it is that an 800,000 year data set of temperature and CO2 never once shows CO2 driving temperature?

We're all still waiting

jc, have you ever considered taking even a 100 level science class? You are one of the most ignorant posters on this board.

CO2 does what any molecule does with absorbed energy. It moves an electron with that energy, then the electron moves back to where it was, in one or more steps, and emits energy equal to that absorbed. Perhaps you really should start at grade school level science, on second thought.

So LikesToSuckOldCocks while you are telling him how ignorant he is you might want to learn the basic concepts that gases, unless under pressure do not absorb energy.

The CO2 is a greenhouse gas has already been debunked.
So it absorbs energy, uses that energy and then emits the original amount of energy.

You imply that it changes something, what would that be??

Are you implying the CO2 uses this energy some way??

You state it makes the molecule "vibrate" and then the same amount of energy that was absorbed is emitted.

If as you would like us to believe, that vibrating is caused by energy taken from the absorbed energy, thus due to proven scientific principles of the conservation of energy in which energy can neither be created or destroyed, how does one correlate to the other??

So the CO2 can only catch this energy, hold it temporarily and then release it as per your rant .................

What effect does this have on the scenario of changing weather patterns??

The same amount of energy would be reaching the planet without these gases, how do you justify a decrease without positive correlation??

Sir, if CO2 absorbs IR, it will emit IR in all directions. CO2 in the atmosphere will absorb only from the surface as I understand it. When it re-emits, it does not re-emit all of what it absorbed back at the surface. when 10 PPM of CO2 absorbs IR how warm will it re-emit toward the surface. Now I'm told that it is actually re-emitting IR but it can't penetrate into the ocean. So, if it can't do that then no energy is received. hmm, like to know how that could impact weather. See, that's why I'd like to see an experiment so you can prove what it is you claim. Which Scientist did that? oh yeah Herr Koch in 1901.

Dude your English sucks, when you can convey a cognizant thought get back with me..................
yeah right, that's why you can't comment. You like crickster and old socks, got nothing. sky is falling chicken littles. Tell me how it is the oceans got warmer when IR can't penetrate the surface? Please, we're all waiting.

jc, have you ever considered taking even a 100 level science class? You are one of the most ignorant posters on this board.

CO2 does what any molecule does with absorbed energy. It moves an electron with that energy, then the electron moves back to where it was, in one or more steps, and emits energy equal to that absorbed. Perhaps you really should start at grade school level science, on second thought.

So [puerile obscene parody of OldRocks] while you are telling him how ignorant he is you might want to learn the basic concepts that gases, unless under pressure do not absorb energy.

That's complete nonsense. All matter is capable of absorbing energy. And the only gas not under pressure would be lone molecules floating in a vacuum. And they have no problem whatsoever absorbing energy. But that's not what you're claiming, is it.

The CO2 is a greenhouse gas has already been debunked.

No, it has not. Here is the proof it is a greenhouse gas. And I do mean PROOF

595px-atmospheric_transmission.png

So it absorbs energy, uses that energy and then emits the original amount of energy. It

Like all matter, it absorbs quanta of energy, its own energy level rises. The higher its energy level, the more likely it will emit quanta of energy. I have no idea what you mean by "uses that energy".

You imply that it changes something, what would that be??

The energy level of the CO2 molecule of course.

Are you implying the CO2 uses this energy some way??

The increased energy level is most often characterized or evidenced by increased vibration of molecular bonds or the increased energy level of the electrons of atoms within the molecule.

You state it makes the molecule "vibrate" and then the same amount of energy that was absorbed is emitted.

Statistically, averaged over gazillions of molecules, that is correct.

If as you would like us to believe, that vibrating is caused by energy taken from the absorbed energy, thus due to proven scientific principles of the conservation of energy in which energy can neither be created or destroyed, how does one correlate to the other??

This is nonsense. Absorbing and reemitting energy does not violate the conservation of energy.

So the CO2 can only catch this energy, hold it temporarily and then release it as per your rant .................

If there is enough energy flying about, it can remain at an elevated energy state for as long as you like.

What effect does this have on the scenario of changing weather patterns??

It makes the Earth's atmosphere and land surface and ocean warmer. They call it global warming. Have you ever heard of it?

The same amount of energy would be reaching the planet without these gases, how do you justify a decrease without positive correlation??

Here's the classic analogy. Imagine a tank of water. One pipe pours water in at a constant rate. That's the energy we receive from the sun. Another pipe is the drain. That is the energy radiating from the Earth away into space, The drain pipe has a valve on it. If we close the valve a little bit, the level of water in the tank will rise until the pressure at the valve has risen and brought the flow rate back up. If we close it a little more, the level of water in the tank will rise a little more until it has balanced again. It is reaching a new equilibrium. That is what greenhouse gases do with the energy they absorb. Their absorption slows the rate at which energy is leaving the planet's atmosphere. The trapped energy increases the Earth's temperature till it has reached a new equilibrium. Go to Wikipedia and look up the Greenhouse Effect. They explain it quite well.

So you say this Co2 is blocking that heat from escaping but lets it in ..................

You also keep making allusions that absorbed IR is the causative agent for electrons revolving around molecules, say this absorbed energy is the causation but yet the same amount is emitted, By the laws of physics, the conservation of matter principal the energy required to make these atoms / molecules vibrate would be less when emitted not the same as taken in..................

Back to my first question, you would like the gullible to believe CO2 is a one way gas allowing heat to enter bur not leave, kind of like a mirror that has the ability to be viewed from behind.

Two different principals entirely involved, so using accepted scientific principles based on gas and pressure law explain that to me again .............

The rest are canned speaking points, you have no knowledge of what you are discussing other than some one else's research which you can not defend because you lack the necessary scientific knowledge or skill to get it done.

Don't come back and quote shit, be a man and tell me in your own words what you are rambling about ..................

So you say this Co2 is blocking that heat from escaping but lets it in ..................

Not blocking, slowing. A quanta of IR leaving the warm surface of the Earth, will be absorbed and reemitted by greenhouse gas molecules thousands or millions of times before it finally manages to either get re-absorbed by land or sea (where the energy stands a large chance of being conducted to other matter rather than being reemitted) or escapes to space.

You also keep making allusions that absorbed IR is the causative agent for electrons revolving around molecules, say this absorbed energy is the causation but yet the same amount is emitted

I made no "allusions" and I did not state that IR was the "causative agent". I have to say you're really in no position to criticize anyone else's science knowledge. Atoms have ground states in which their electrons fill the lowest possible orbital shells. When they absorb photons or any other quanta of energy, their electrons rise to higher orbital shells. Think of that as where the atom stores the energy. The emission of a quanta is enabled or forced by an electron dropping an orbital level.

, By the laws of physics, the conservation of matter principal the energy required to make these atoms / molecules vibrate would be less when emitted not the same as taken in..................

I strongly suggest you actually learn the laws of physics before attempting to use them in an argument. The conservation of matter has noting to do with the topic we're discussing. That an atom cannot emit as much energy as it absorbs is an erroneous application of the second law of thermodynamics. At the atomic scale, energy exists in indivisible units known as quanta. They are something like the atoms of energy. Just as you cannot divide an atom of gold (and still have gold), you cannot divide a quanta of energy. It is the smallest step. Atoms and molecules absorb and emit energy in quantum units or steps. There is no getting around it.

Back to my first question, you would like the gullible to believe CO2 is a one way gas allowing heat to enter bur not leave, kind of like a mirror that has the ability to be viewed from behind.

I never said anything even faintly resembling that. GHGs (greenhouse gases) absorb and reemit photons of light within certain frequency bands. That process requires time and effectively slows the escape of that radiated energy to space. It makes it more difficult for the Earth to shed the energy it is receiving from the sun. The result of that is that the equilibrium temperature - the temperature at which energy coming in and energy going out are equal - rises. The Earth warms. Perhaps I need to point out that the amount of energy radiated by any piece of matter (like the Earth) is dependent on its temperature: the higher that temperature, the greater the energy radiated.

Two different principals entirely involved, so using accepted scientific principles based on gas and pressure law explain that to me again ............

I just did..

The rest are canned speaking points

The rest come from my understanding of the physics of the processes we're discussing. If they look like canned speaking points to you, you should consider the possibility that anyone whose had so much as a high school physics class would tell you exactly the same thing.

you have no knowledge of what you are discussing other than some one else's research which you can not defend because you lack the necessary scientific knowledge or skill to get it done.

I have a great deal more knowledge of the topic than do you and I am quite certain you know it. You simply don't want to admit it. I have been polite with you here - far more polite than the typical discussions on these boards. It you'd rather descend into the insult pit, I can certainly oblige you. I'd simply hoped you might actually be open to learning some basic, valid, mainstream science instead of wasting time collecting meaningless buzzword phonemes you seem to believe will impress people. Without understanding what those terms mean (and you demonstrably do not) they are "a tale... signifying nothing".

Don't come back and quote shit, be a man and tell me in your own words what you are rambling about.

Read what I've told you. If you have specific questions, I will answer them as best I can. If you continue to throw undeserved insults, I will not. Simple enough.

There is no need in me even trying to rebutt all that bull shit crick.

quanta

[kwon-tuh]

noun
1.
plural of quantum.
quantum

[kwon-tuh m]

noun, plural quanta

[kwon-tuh] (Show IPA)
1.
quantity or amount:
the least quantum of evidence.
2.
a particular amount.
3.
a share or portion.
4.
a large quantity; bulk.
5.
Physics.
  1. the smallest quantity of radiant energy, equal to Planck's constant times the frequency of the associated radiation.
  2. the fundamental unit of a quantized physical magnitude, as angular momentum.

So you drag a word out that means the smallest unit like it will make you sound intelligent.

Once again you are speaking of "slowing of energy", trying to explain it is not stopping energy from leaving but simply slowing it.

So this slowing process, how does it bear on global warming.

So now that we know quanta had noting to do with this why would your ignorant ass even try and connect it to the conversation??

Ok so heat causes expansion, cooling causes contraction ...............

Basic science, what does that have to do with global warming ??

So you say cooling gives off the smallest particle of energy ................

What does that moronic statement have to do with this discussion??

So we are talking about the law of the "conservation of matter" a physics law that states : energy can neither be CREATED or DESTROYED .

You state this is an erroneous application of the second law of thermodynamics.

Let's look at that law.

Second law of thermodynamics: In a natural thermodynamic process, the sum of the entropies of the interacting thermodynamic systems increases. Equivalently, perpetual motion machines of the second kind are impossible.

From wikipedia.

So an entropy, lets define it.

In thermodynamics, entropy (usual symbol S) is a measure of the number of specific ways in which a thermodynamic system may be arranged, commonly understood as a measure of disorder.

So this is a total of the ways a thermodynamic system can be arranged.

So you have strung together mumbo jumbo and then went back to that catchy word you like quanta, the smallest unit of energy.

Once again what does all that rambling shit have to do with climate change ??

That radiated energy where did it come from??

The sun, why did the GHG's not have the same slowing affect when it entered the atmosphere??

It makes it more difficult for the Earth to shed the energy it is receiving from the sun. Wow what a fucking scientific break through, call the fucking Journal of Modern Sciene

News flash hotter shit emits more heat .....................

So once again how did we get it in, but it want go back out??

The process of that, not being able to escape as quick as it enters .............. you have yet to explain that.

Is this radiated energy somehow mysteriously coded "incoming" and "outgoing" so that the GHG's can differentiate??

Do the molecules have sign's "inbound" and "outbound" taped to their miniscule heads??

Yep, the rest is pure ad homonem about how much smarter than me you are.

Grow up son, that ain't the way to look intelligent and win an argument.

We are back to that pesky law that keeps kicking your ass all over this board.

ENERGY CAN NEITHER BE CREATED OR DESTROYED.

WHAT FUCKING PART OF THAT IS NOT SINKING IN??

If absorbed energy by any GHG causes any reaction then energy is expanded.

To claim that the gases release the same amount of energy as absorbed but use a portion of that same energy while acting as a container.

So basically energy in = energy out => energy used to vibrate ??

Here's the classic analogy. Imagine a tank of water. One pipe pours water in at a constant rate. That's the energy we receive from the sun. Another pipe is the drain. How does that gas know the difference between "incoming" and "outgoing " energy??

How did that shit get trapped, trapping season for energy is closed ......................

You mean the effect that has been debunked because they can not answer intelligent people like mine and CF's ??

Why yes, I have heard of the global warming liars myth on GHG's.

Those guy's need little tin foil hats and got shit psychologist are afraid to treat .................

Empirical / Tests Myths
Myth: The close correlation of CO2 and temperature, as temperature has gone up and down over the last 400,000 years, proves that CO2 is causing the climate changes.

Fact: Since 1999, multiple technical, peer reviewed articles have been available that demonstrate exactly the opposite conclusion. CO2 changes lagged temperature changes as temperature increased or decreased. Temperature changed and then, several hundred years later, CO2 levels changed. Since a cause does not follow an effect, this indicates that CO2 is not a primary driver of climate change.

TheLastFourGlacierCycles1a.gif

Antarctic Temperature and CO2 history from ice core analyses. Note the amazing rhythmical similarities of the four cycles, which indicate the very strong solar-orbital influences on Earth's climate. Since Earth's CO2 level do not drive the solar-orbital cycles, your can see why many scientists doubt the currently popular "CO2 CAUSES harmful global warming" argument. On the other hand, an increase in CO2 may provide some slight positive feedback (support) to a warming Earth, but the magnitude or evem the sign of that effect is still being debated.
