It's not just the Catholic church that has a pedophile problem. In fact other clerics molest kids at the same rate as the Roman Catholic Church. Pope Frances says about 2% of priests are pedophiles. Other estimates put it at 6%. Considering that there are only 400,000 pedophiles in the US, the lion's share of pedophiles are priests and ministers.

I'm doubtful about your stats and what you say, but I believe that general population people molest children in amounts of numbers that are not reported in the news. When a priest does it it makes the news but general population molestations are not reported in the news and maybe never reported at all.

The numbers are based in crime statistics. There are often false reports against married men in custody battles so if anyone is being counted unfairly it's married men.
