CIA documents supported Susan Rice’s description of Benghazi attacks

The CIA in Benghazi knew it wasn't a mob within 24 hours, and so did the State Dept, they were in contact in real time as it went down, and yet 4 days later a talking points appears that says it was a demonstration that turned violent. Bullshit. There never was a demonstration, it was an attack, the streets outside the embassy were quiet until the attack started. Somebody is flat out lying.
Gee, that's funny! The CIA chief says something completely different 3 days after the attack. Will you be calling him Gen Betrayus?

Al Qaeda Took Advantage of Libyan Protest, CIA Chief Says

The attack that killed four Americans in the Libyan consulate began as a spontaneous protest against the film “The Innocence of Muslims,” but Islamic militants who may have links to Al Qaeda used the opportunity to launch an attack, CIA Director David Petreaus told the House Intelligence Committee today according to one lawmaker who attended a closed-door briefing.
Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger, the top Democrat on the House Intel committee, said Petraeus laid out “a chronological order exactly what we felt happened, how it happened, and where we’re going in the future.”
“In the Benghazi area, in the beginning we feel that it was spontaneous – the protest- because it went on for two or three hours, which is very relevant because if it was something that was planned, then they could have come and attacked right away,” Ruppersberger, D-Md., said following the hour-long briefing by Petraeus. “At this point it looks as if there was a spontaneous situation that occurred and that as a result of that, the extreme groups that were probably connected to al Qaeda took advantage of that situation and then the attack started.”

It was a preplanned spontaneous attack. Is that like kinetic military action?

The head of the CIA said it was not preplanned, how do you know more than him???

“Talking points” prepared by the CIA on Sept. 15, the same day that Rice taped three television appearances, support her description of the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. Consulate as a reaction to Arab anger about an anti-Muslim video prepared in the United States. According to the CIA account

I thought by then Obama had already said it was terror attack ?

Then Biden said it was an intel failure ?

Leveling with the American people would be best about now.

Okay, so the Obama administration was three days ahead of the CIA since they started telling that story right away? And the State Department's intel was wrong since they stated they knew it was al Qaeda related within hours.

The CIA intel, if it existed, was way off. How could they get it so wrong and yet the story gets told for weeks, yet the State Dept. gets it right and no one repeats their findings? This is not adding up.

Now, only when Obama is in the hot seat and the country is demanding answers, do they come up with this supposed incorrect intel. They believed the bad intel and ignored the good intel, at least that would be the way it was IF they are telling the truth now. Big 'if.' They have changed the story too many times and I don't believe a word from this administration.

The buck is still being passed. Where it will stop, no one knows.

The CIA station chief, who isn't a political appointee, says it was.

People here keep saying Al-Qaeda took advantage of a protest ok I posted a link from Politico earlier in this thread which stated there was no protest in Benghazi on the day of the attack so there seems to some contradiction here. Now for the sake of argument let's say there was a spontaneous protest that does not make the Al-Qaeda attack spontaneous in fact terrorist attacks are generally well thought out and planned in advance something that has been a trademark of Al-Qaeda for a long time in fact spontaneous terrorist attack is really a contradiction in terms.

But in Benghazi, witnesses said members of the group that raided the U.S. mission specifically mentioned the video, which denigrated the prophet Muhammad.
Tarek, an off-duty police sergeant who asked that his full name be withheld to shield him from reprisals, said he came to the scene about an hour after the attack began and found militants blocking the road leading to the compound.
"They drew their guns on me and they told me that the Americans were abusing our prophet," he said. "That's why they said they had come to fight."
He and others described the attackers as a mob rather than a team of commandos. It included some organized elements, they said, but its intelligence was less than precise. A caretaker at the villa adjacent to the U.S. mission said the attackers initially threatened to raid his compound until he and a guard barred the gate and shouted: "Private property! Women inside!"
Libyan guards who served as the security force at the U.S. compound said the mob was made up of disparate types, some who appeared to be experienced fighters and others who were not. There were long-bearded men whose faces were obscured by scarves in the style of practiced militants and called each other "sheik." But there also were younger men, some who looked like teenagers with wispy beards on their uncovered faces.
"There were civilians there, and many were carrying weapons," said Sheik Mohamed Oraibi, a hard-line Islamic preacher who arrived soon after the attack began. He said the attackers arrived in about 20 pickup trucks, many of which had machine guns mounted on them in the style favored by rebels during the Libyan revolution last year.
Multiple witnesses said the accents and vernacular used by the attackers sounded Libyan, not foreign. They were extremely well armed, but Libya is awash in weapons. In Benghazi, machine guns and shoulder-fired grenade launchers, many pilfered by rebels from Kadafi's stocks during the revolution, are sold on the streets.
"This was a group of thieves that saw a chance and wanted to seize it," said Hamad Bougrain, a spokesman for the Feb. 17 Martyrs Brigade, a Libyan pro-government militia whose members were part of the mission's security detail. Members of the militia also responded to the attack.
Libyan officials say one of the key suspects is Ahmed Abu Khattala, leader of an Islamist militia called the Abu Obeida brigade. He has acknowledged being at the scene but denies leading the raid. Libyan officials say there are no orders to arrest him.

Al Qaeda Took Advantage of Libyan Protest, CIA Chief Says

“At this point it looks as if there was a spontaneous situation that occurred and that as a result of that, the extreme groups that were probably connected to al Qaeda took advantage of that situation and then the attack started.”

Let me see if I have this straight.

A bunch of people show up spontaneously, carry out a coordinated assault on the consulate in Benghazi, and managed to take out the barracks where the Libyan security team is headquartered. They then spontaneously and coincidentally move to the building the ambassador is in, dumping diesel fuel as they do so, and locate the safe area, but are unable to see anyone in it. They then exit the living quarters and set it on fire, probably by accident since no one thought to bring any matches to a spontaneous protest.

They then spontaneously locate the top secret location of the safe hose, and accidentally drop mortar shells from mortar they just found on the street. Either that, or someone thinks it is cool to walk around carrying a 30 pound weapon in case he finds someone else that is carrying another 30 pounds of random ammunition that will fire from it.

Do you seriously expect me to believe this crap? I wouldn't believe it if George Washington rose from the grave and told me this story, I am sure not going to believe it from any president less than a month before an election.

It appears that Romney just lost his key talking point for the debate on foreign policy. The talking point will remain among the rabid right... but how would Romney come at this now?

1) You never said Terrorist attack - yes he did. And all acts like this, premeditated or not, are acts of terror.
2) You never got them security. - true. But 1, we already admitted that. There was a communication fuckup, and we were responsible. And 2, you weren't concerned about security when you voted slashes to security budgets.
3) You blamed the video! - It does, in fact, appear that the video had something to do with it.
4) You said that the deaths of 4 Americans were not optimal. - I said the communication was not optimal. And we need to fix it.

Cap that off with some form of statement that politicising the death of 4 Americans is really not the act of a good leader.

Please continue, Governor.

Well, if you are stupid enough to believe that having matches constitutes coordination, then you are just too stupid to be persuaded by any facts.

yeah... there wouldn't likely be any incindiary devices in a living quarter. Or a cigarette lighter in a pocket. Or... well pretty much fucking anything. That might be the weakest argument yet.
