Church & State: "Obama Needs To Stop 'Intruding Into Internal Life Of A Church'...

It is so funny how the right is trying so despirately to stur up the base with this religious nonsense.

I checked my email this morning and my right wing buddy was all fired up about this.

I say we remove the churches tax exempt status for playing politics.

i say we kick out Obama the Messiah for playing god....

I'm just waiting for him to have a total hissy fit and call Catholics 'the enemy'. That would be very cool.

If the administration doesn't back down from this November will be a U-Haul month in DC...

He'll back down eventually. But then he'll claim he solved the problem he himself created. It's straight out of the Saul Alinsky 'Rules for Radicals' handbook. This guy is no 'Uniter.'

Bush's fault...has to be

His opponents just have no interest in meeting him any part of the way

His opponenets were elected to stop him destroying the country any more than he has.
Plus he doesn't want to compromise. If he did he wouldv'e back Simpson-Bowles and started to fix the damage done from decades of abuse by both parties.
On this issue he can not be compromised with as he is violating the constitution.

There was a sharp rebuke Wednesday from Cardinal-designate Timothy Dolan that put even more pressure on the president to calm a widening election year uproar. The issue at hand was the president’s insistence that Catholic institutions provide free birth control to their employees.

Dolan came to the South Bronx to bless a library, but he had no blessings — just harsh words — for President Barack Obama, who wants Catholic institutions to pay for birth control, the morning after pill and other services for people who work for them.

The federal government should do what it’s traditionally done since July 4, 1776, namely back out of intruding into the internal life of a church,” Dolan told CBS 2’s Marcia Kramer.

The leader of the New York Archdiocese picked up support from Speaker John Boehner, who said either Obama reverses the policy or the House will.

“The federal government has drifted dangerously beyond its constitutional boundaries. This attack by the federal government on religious freedom in our country must not stand and will not stand,” Boehner said.

The attacks left the White House foundering. It wants to find some way to calm Catholic opposition, but will not back down on the policy, itself.

“I want to be clear today that the commitment to insuring the women have access to these important health care services remains very strong,” Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

And there are many others who are falling into line behind the president, including New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg, reports CBS 2′s Hazel Sanchez.

“The power to decide whether or not to use contraception lies with a woman, not her boss,” Sen. Gillibrand said.

Church leader don't want to give up any power over people they have left. Church goers, not so much.......

Roughly 6-in-10 Catholics (58%) believe that employers should be required to provide their employees with health care plans that cover contraception.

Among other religious Americans, 61% of religiously unaffiliated Americans believe that employers should be required to provide their employees with health care plans that cover contraception, compared to only half (50%) of white mainline Protestants and less than 4-in-10 (38%) white evangelical Protestants.

Nearly three-quarters (73%) of Democrats, a slim majority (51%) of political Independents and less than 4-in-10 (36%) of Republicans agree that employer health care coverage should include contraception at no cost.

Younger Americans are much more supportive of the requirement. Nearly two-thirds (65%) of Millennials (age 18-29) agree that employer health care coverage should include contraception at no cost, compared to 4-in-10 (40%) seniors (age 65+).

Women are significantly more likely than men to agree that employers should be required to provide health care plans that cover contraception (62% vs. 47% respectively).

Right, because you don't compromise with a dictator who is trying to interfere with how people worship.

Never.

Not even once.

Not even a little

I see Obama's meddling as a violation of Church and State. Enough said.

Really? What church dogma is he forcing the Catholics to change? Is he forcing one single Catholic to take birth control? Is he forcing the Church to change it's position on birth contorl?

we should not have government telling employers or insurance companies what to cover....:eusa_hand:

we should go to market-based health care.....individuals should be able to buy what they want to buy....

He is trying to tell a religious organization how they must operate. That is a clear violation of the 1st Amendment.

Freedom of Religion ...

The gov'ts ruling is for "choice" in coverage - is what the Bishop is objecting too rather than the Bishops interpretation of what the congregation should be allowed, against their own free will or religious freedom granted them by the Constitution.

No he isn't. The Church is running businesses outside the 'internal' affairs of the Church. They are expected to obey the law just like anyone of any religion, or of no religion.

Yes, when they are operating as a business dealing with health care for employees of the business. He is protecting the employees not church dogma, which btw, he has not forced the church to change. They are still free to tell people they are going to hell if they use contraceptives.

One more big blow to our Republic from the Socialists/Progressives :(

And the employees aren't forced to work there. If they want their employers to pay for their contraceptives, they can find hospitals with different health care plans.

I just don't think any business (run by a church or not) should be exempt from what the law required them to offer their employees.

The law shouldn't require them to pay for things that go against their doctrine.

THAT is the violation of the first amendment. That the state is FORCING them to act contrary to their belief, in a matter where there is NO HARM DONE if they follow their belief.

You should read that link a tad more closely.

The second part in particular.... about Public Divided Over Exemptions for Religiously Affiliated Colleges & Hospitals; Support Exemptions for Churches

While they are 'spinning' the results to show a more positive outcome, the figures are not nearly as 'positive' as they would like them to show.

I read it all before I posted the link. From the section you singled out:

A majority of Catholics (52%) say that religiously affiliated colleges and hospitals should have to provide coverage that includes contraception

Among other religious groups, 59% of the unaffiliated say that religiously affiliated colleges and hospitals should have to provide coverage that includes contraception

Nearly 6-in-10 (58%) Millennials say that religiously affiliated colleges and hospitals should have to provide health care plans that include contraception coverage

Women are also significantly more likely than men to say that religiously affiliated colleges and hospitals should provide this coverage (54% to 43% respectively).

But on strictly church employees:

There is stronger support for exemptions for churches and other places of worship. Nearly 6-in-10 (57%) of Americans say that churches should NOT be required to provide their employees with health care plans that cover contraception or birth control at no cost
