noboday cares or wonders how the government swoops in and OWNS 40% of an alleged american automobile company.....

hitler loved the people's car

yay....all those billions for what, something they should have done BEFORE those billions....

Obama owns this bankruptcy

I'm interested to hear how. Didn't the Big 3 get bailout money?

Trust me, this saddens me to no end, because here in Indiana Chrysler employs thousands...who now will not be working for 60 days until they restructure their bankruptcy. Our local news said Chrysler hopes to be "up and running" again after those 60 days.

i actually think 60 days is wishful thinking the bondholders are gonna fight like hell.

I've been wondering, and have been suspicious. you probably don't remember but about a month ago I asked if anyone knew what a "targeted bankruptcy" was,, no one knew..well now we know.. Chrysler didn't go bankrupt,, the bondholders did..:eusa_whistle:

A few months back when bankruptcy was mentioned for the car companies, the pols all said 'no,no that is bad, can't let the car companies go into bankruptcy, that will mean depression'. Now, after shelling out billions in bailout bucks that will never been seen again, bankruptcy is suddenly a good idea. Was a shipment of lightbulbs delivered to Chryslar and Washington? All they did was postpone the inevitable.

Obama attacking hedge funds is dumb.

I have no sympathy for the hedge funds but admonishing them for being obstructionist is out of place for the President. We have a very well defined legal procedure for bankruptcy, and the hedge funds who own the bonds have every right to contest the agreement in court.

Plus, the administration wants to put the claims of the workers ahead of those of the bondholders. It is a long-standing precedent - with good reason - that wages owed are behind those of bondholders. Obama wants to change that precedent, and that is a worrying event.

Fiat never had much of a reputation in the US, although you still see an X19 once in a while. Last time we were California the old and odd cars were amazing, the weather sure contributes to longevity.

The impact of so many foreign corporations is an interesting one, what will it mean for our future. Budweiser's sale amazed me, it seems the so called socialists must be doing something right when they are the ones buying America.

Just realized my 3000 post. lol

obama owns this bankruptcy

How do you figure Obama owns it? Because he supported funding and didn't let it go down earlier, when there wasn't another company to partner with it and when it probably would have ended up shutting its doors for good?

I'm pretty sure its owners are wiped out too.

you obviously have missed the news talking about obama's admin dealing with chrysler for the past few months....

obama even said the bankruptcy was a wise move and would give them an additional 8 billion dollars to make sure it succeeds...

do keep up

Do answer my question.

does anyone know exactly how much the UAW paid to own 60%...

Good question, Yurt.

All I know is they gave up some part of their retirement packages.

How much that concession really amounts to for each retiree and employee isn't clear, but I'm guessing the amount is FAR MORE than the current Chysler corp is really worth.

or was it the billions us taxpayers gave them

Both, I think

and the government owning that much, sounds socialist to me

I agree...hopefully the government can sell our shares soon at a profit.

I'm not counting on it, but that's the plan.

i answered your question

it is not my fault you aren't intelligent enough to figure it out

Thanks. I was just giving you more credit than I should have because I figured that couldn't possibly be your "answer" as it doesn't even come close to explaining how "Obama owns this bankruptcy."

Thanks for clearing it up for me.

Chrysler's bankruptcy was inevitable. You could see it coming years ago.

White House denies making threats.

White House Denies Claims of Threat to Chrysler Creditor - DealBook Blog - NYTimes.com

It may be untrue, I have no idea. There is so much BS around.

But even if the White House didn't threaten the hedge funds, this is one reason why the President shouldn't be stoking populist anger at others.

Creditors objecting to Chrysler LLC's efforts to speed the company's move through bankruptcy won a delay in a key hearing today, and a lawyer said some had received death threats. ...

A lawyer for the objecting creditors, Thomas Lauria, told Gonzales that some creditors had received death threats -- and those had been referred to the FBI and local police. Lauria wants court permission to keep the identities of some of those creditors secret.

"We're in a terrible spot," said Lauria, who also claims the White House pressured creditors to agree to concessions -- a suggestion denied by the administration.
