Burning of the Goat – Sweden

Burning the Goat
What started-off as an act of vandalism has become one of the most interesting traditions in Sweden. For over 40 years the Swedish town of Gavle has erected a giant Goat made of straw to mark the beginning of the holiday season. But every year vandals do everything they can to burn down the goat before Christmas Day. Since 1966, the Straw Goat has survived until Christmas Day only 10 times. People disguise themselves as Santa Claus or elves to get past the guardians and ignite the straw monument.

Wacky Christmas Traditions From Around the World

Ever hear of them? They're a big Christmas tradition in Germany. Kids make them at school on the first day, and they fill them with treats and presents and then hang them on Christmas tree. Did you know Christmas orignated in Germany?

In Japanese Happy/Merry Christmas is 'Meri Kurisumasu'! In Japan Santa is known as santa-san (Mr Santa).

Fried chicken is often eaten on Christmas day. It is the busiest time of year for restaurants such as KFC and people can place orders at their local fast food restaurant in advance! The traditional Japanese christmas food is christmas cake, but it's not a rich fruit cake, but is usually a sponge cake decorated with strawberries and whipped cream.
