BEIRUT—Extremist groups are waging a “genocide” against Christians in the Middle East, a former Lebanese president said Monday after a New Year’s suicide bombing of a church in Egypt killed 21 people.

Amin Gemayel, a Christian who served a six-year term as president in the 1980s, cited the attack in Egypt and recent violence in Iraq as he urged leaders to give Christian communities a larger political role.

“Massacres are taking place for no reason and without any justification against Christians. It is only because they are Christians,” said Gemayel, who leads Lebanon’s right-wing Christian Phalange party.

“What is happening to Christians is a genocide,” he said.

Lebanon, which experienced a ruinous 15-year civil war, in part between Muslims and Christians, that left about 150,000 dead, is deeply divided along sectarian lines. Christians make up about 40 per cent of Lebanon’s four million people and the country is the only Arab nation with a Christian head of state.

It isn't technically genocide. It is just old fashioned bigotry and generic stupid. But there does seem to be a concerted campaign going on to kill as many of them as they can as quickly as they can.

ALEXANDRIA, Egypt, Jan. 3 (UPI) -- Egypt says it is investigating a group inspired by al-Qaida in connection with the deadly New Year's Eve bombing of a church in Alexandria.

Egyptian security forces were holding seven people in custody following the bombing of Coptic Christian worshipers as they left a midnight mass, Britain's Guardian newspaper reported.

President Hosni Mubarak condemned what he termed an attack "on all Egyptians" by "foreign elements."

Security experts point the finger of blame at al-Qaida, although no one has claimed responsibility for the attack, which killed 21 and wounded dozens more.

"The technical aspects ... the large number of victims and the threats of al-Qaida in Iraq all point to al-Qaida's fingerprints," Diaa Rashwan of Cairo's al-Ahram center said.

Egyptian officials said the investigation was focusing on a local group of Muslims inspired by, but not directly linked to, al-Qaida.

yea, like we aint have a civil war, stfu yo you keep exuding stupid.:doubt:

huh?

This aint hard to understand.

You use the sad turmoil in Iraq as justification that it failed. This is BS.

WE HAD A BLOODY CIVIL WAR/TURMOIL TOO. We lost over 600,000 in the Civil War. Also, when you count all the civil unrest, race riots, etc we've had in the past 150 years, Iraq looks to be doin JUST FINE FOR A FLEDGLING REPUBLIC BY COMPARISON.

So, unless you wanna run to the steps of Congress, donning signs and apparel proclaiming the massive failure of our United States, PLEASE SHUT UP OR @ LEAST THINK BEFORE YOU POST NEXT TIME.

Mmmmmm k?

How bout before you shit on the accomplishments of our troops, their sacrificing their lives, blood, sweat, tears, etc. you find:

-government agents tying people up, and throwing them off buildings

-gassing Kurds

-kidnapping and murdering dissidents

-blatantly rigging elections

-refusing to combat Islamic extremism within its borders

I can go on, and on.....and on.

OF COURSE they're gonna be uber religious, they're Shiite Muslims, BUT THEY HAVE YET to become crazy. As secular as Saddam was, he obviously made up for that in his many grotesque crimes against humanity.

Unlike Saddam, this Iraqi government was freely, and fairly elected, IS fightin terrorism within its borders, IS CLEARLY OUR ALLY, etc.

I look forward to your retort......or more likely....your deflections.......
