I find it interesting how fractured the christian religion really is, yet all claim the bible as their holy book. There seem to be many forms, sects, or denominations of christianity, yet when you ask someone they will respond, "I'm a Christian". They will not say I'm a Protestant, Catholic, Baptist or Methodist. I wonder why that is?

I imagine it is because they think they are the ones correctly reading and interpreting the bible; they may not consider the other sects or denominations true Christians.

"...yet all claim the bible as their holy book."

You probably know that in Matthew 4 and in Genesis 3 you read Satan conversing in scripture.

And, the variety of 'Christianity' taught in the Obama-Wright Trinity Church of Christ is a Marxist variety known as black liberation theology....

...so, 'ya pays your money, 'ya takes your choice.

That's because the bible is so over loaded with imagery, parables and magic. Everyone just hangs on the parts that they like and ignore the rest, which leads to bible thumpers cherry-picking quotes as justification of their views eventhough it's all out of context. Then there's just the rules of the church and how to perform certain neuonces of ceremonies (i.e Catholics for baptism sprinkle where the baptist submerge).

The major problem with a lot of Christians is that if you don't believe exactly as they do, then you're going to hell, even if you pray to the same god and accepted the same savior.

I call myself Christian...but i don't believe in organized religion. That's what i call it when someone says they're a Baptist, Methodist, Protestant...(i believe Catholics are a cult-not Christian). I haven't gone to church in quite awhile. Not that i didn't enjoy going (usually), but i don't believe in the "rules" that churches put in place. Most are man made rules, not laws of God. Like when my uncle was a pastor, his church didn't believe in going to movies, dancing, etc...that's not Gods law, it's all made up by man. I get more out of just having a Bible study group, i get so much more out of it and you can get together with others that feel the same way you do.

Yes...the Bible is our Holy book, it's God's word. It's a teaching tool. Maybe not the easiest to really understand, it takes alot of studying. But it's all we really need.

I'm not a christian, but I comletely get your point. It's very true that you get more out of the bible if you take the time to study it yourself instead of just blindly believing what someone on the pulit told you what it says. :clap2: good luck sir, enjoy your studies.

The problem of studying it yourself in small groups of like thinkers is the David Koresh situation. It seems that most groups like this end up living the end times prophecies, and this leads to some really bizzare behavior. Then sometimes you get the under educated trying to interpet a book that scholars can't even interpet correctly. Then they start arguing ove language (this seems to be a favorite topic) and which is acceptable and which is not. The bible can be very dangerous is the wrong hands, just ask abortion doctors.

Thoses Catholics are going to burn in hell for idolitry, gambling and drinking.
Or so I was told by Christians.

Well...like i said, i'm Christian, and i like to have some beer, or wine...and i like to go to casino's once in awhile (even get lucky sometimes! lol!). These things are ok, if you don't abuse them. But i do agree that Cathlolics are idol worshipers - the bible says you DON'T pray to anyone but Him through his son Jesus Christ. Catholics pray to Mary and the Saints for "intercession" or whatever! That's wrong no matter what anyone says about it!

I guess it could lead to that and probably has...not all of us agree on how we interpret something. I love studying end times, but that's not all we study at all...you have to study the WHOLE bible. Yes, there's some pretty whacky people out there that call themselves christian and do some horrible things. That's not what Christianity is about and they are not true christians...they're being led by Satan...

That is a popular cop out. They did evil so obviously they aren't christians. I had a christian try and tell me that the inquisition and witch burnings were not committed by christians because true christians don't kill. Then in the next breath tell me about how all Muslims are Jihadists out to kill the infidels.

The single biggest tool of Satan since time began is religion. No one should confuse a realtionship with Christ and christianity (religion). The church was created by man and has been run by man. Every person is responsible for his or her own salvation. You are responsible for reading the bible yourself. No one can read it for you. The bible is read with a spiritual mind by those who have allowed Jesus to abide in his or her heart. To read the bible without salvation is a waste of time. It was not written for the un-saved.

Anyone who reads the bible correctly does not read an order to spill blood in the name of Christ. They do not read an order to prostest openly so that the world may see. They read an order to love you enemies and to pray quietly in a closet.

But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. Matthew 6:6
