Here’s how the Duggars’ patriarchal homeschool world teaches kids to shame sex abuse victims

They truly are the American Taliban - molesting children, mistreating women. Systematic and justified by twisting the bible, just like Muslim extremists.

The Duggar family’s involvement in Bill Gothard’s Advanced Training Institute (ATI) homeschool program adds complexities to this story which are unknown to the average person. The underlying principles and beliefs the Duggars have built their lives around actually help groom and shame victims, help hide grievous abuse, and even keep offenders from receiving needed help.

The lessons learned from birth in homes like the Duggar’s strip children of their voice and agency. Starting with blanket training babies and toddlers understand quickly that disappointing a parent leads to swift and painful consequences. As they grow, it becomes clear that simply doing what is expected is not enough. It must be done instantly and cheerfully. Children are even forbidden to seek out the logic behind the request, as kids are prone to do, because that is seen a making excuses or delaying obedience. The consequences of failing to meet these expectations are severe. Gothard and the Duggars believe that spankings are necessary to save a child from their inborn nature to do evil, and these are not just any spankings. The Duggars endorse the child abuse methods taught by the Pearls. Growing up in an environment of fear, where questions are seen as rebellious, eventually makes children unable to speak up for themselves. They become unable to trust their own judgment of what is right and wrong. These children are the perfect targets for abuse; they do not know how to advocate for themselves.

True. According to extremist evangelical Christians, God intended rapes to happen and that makes them a good thing.

Remember the story of the Nauglers that was on the board awhile back. The homeschoolers who lost custody of their kids?
..the story that outraged the RWnuts around here as being too much evil government interference?

Well one little nugget of that story seemed to have pretty much flown under the radar at the time:

Their eldest son, now 19, had been removed from Joe Naugler's custody because of abuse

Alex Brow Joe Naugler s son testifies against free range father in Kentucky court - Boston Newstime

That's the Right's latest homeschooler hero.

According to lefty loons such as yourself, that is what Christians believe.
Only the most insane evangelical ones. And there are more of those than you'd care to admit.

The number is irrelevant as they don't wield any real power on said issue.
For people that weild no power, the Duggars sure got a whole lot of ratings and praise from the right for their conservative values.

to be honest with you, there is an amount of shame involved in sexual abuse of children. If their wasn't the children themselves wouldn't be in any emotional pain themselves and it would be on the level of touching a child on the head without the parents permission. That is not a crime and it doesn't make the child feel ashamed because there is nothing sexual about it. However, touching that sexual arouses the adult is molestation and the child often feels some level of shame because of it. Not really the fault of the child but because sexual stigmas, taboos, and other thing exist the child may feel this way.

Thank ala for homeschooled Muslim schools because they teach that molested children should be stoned. Go Islam!

Please. Not all conservatives did.

And you have nothing to prove they are not good people.

They just had too many kids.

Sounds suspiciously like psychological projection. In other words, you are talking about yourself.

Are there? I think you might be making things up.
America has 1/3 of the entire world's population of evangelical Christians. They make up 25% of our population. Their leaders railed against civil rights, revile less extreme versions of Christianity, didn't apologize for their support of slavery until the 1990's... and they have even had their politicians claim that rapes were intended by God. There's plenty of insanity in that population.
