Was posting in jeri's thread and i felt impressed to start a.thread about Christ in the Book of Mormon since she says what we teach about Christ is false (which is odd because I thought the literal resurrection of Jesus Christ is a pretty central detail to Christianity, though maybe she has a different version of it then I'm aware of).

So I figured that the best place to start is Christ's appearance. Remember, this is specifically about Christ in the Book of Mormon, if you want to talk about Joseph or something else we can start another thread.

3 Nephi 11

This passage is when Christ first appeared to the people after His resurrection from the dead. As you read think about what is happening, ponder the tender mercies of the Lord and search your feelings. Then let me know what you think and feel.

And now it came to pass that there were a great multitude gathered together, of the people of Nephi, round about the temple which was in the land Bountiful; and they were marveling and wondering one with another, and were showing one to another the great and marvelous change which had taken place.

And they were also conversing about this Jesus Christ, of whom the sign had been given concerning his death.

And it came to pass that while they were thus conversing one with another, they heard a voice as if it came out of heaven; and they cast their eyes round about, for they understood not the voice which they heard; and it was not a harsh voice, neither was it a loud voice; nevertheless, and notwithstanding it being a smallvoice it did pierce them that did hear to the center, insomuch that there was no part of their frame that it did not cause to quake; yea, it did pierce them to the very soul, and did cause their hearts to burn.

And it came to pass that again they heard the voice, and they understood it not.

And again the third time they did hear the voice, and did open their ears to hear it; and their eyes were towards the sound thereof; and they did look steadfastly towards heaven, from whence the sound came.

And behold, the third time they did understand the voice which they heard; and it said unto them:

Behold my Beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased, in whom I have glorified my name—hear ye him.

And it came to pass, as they understood they cast their eyes up again towards heaven; and behold, theysaw a Man descending out of heaven; and he was clothed in a white robe; and he came down and stood in the midst of them; and the eyes of the whole multitude were turned upon him, and they durst not open their mouths, even one to another, and wist not what it meant, for they thought it was an angel that had appeared unto them.

And it came to pass that he stretched forth his hand and spake unto the people, saying:

Behold, I am Jesus Christ, whom the prophets testified shall come into the world.

And behold, I am the light and the life of the world; and I have drunk out of that bitter cup which the Father hath given me, and have glorified the Father in takingupon me the sins of the world, in the which I have suffered the will of the Father in all things from the beginning.

And it came to pass that when Jesus had spoken these words the whole multitude fell to the earth; for they remembered that it had been prophesied among them that Christ should show himself unto them after his ascension into heaven.

And it came to pass that the Lord spake unto them saying:

Arise and come forth unto me, that ye may thrustyour hands into my side, and also that ye may feel the prints of the nails in my hands and in my feet, that ye may know that I am the God of Israel, and the God of the whole earth, and have been slain for the sins of the world.

And it came to pass that the multitude went forth, and thrust their hands into his side, and did feel the prints of the nails in his hands and in his feet; and this they did do, going forth one by one until they had all gone forth, and did see with their eyes and did feel with their hands, and did know of a surety and did bear record, that it was he, of whom it was written by the prophets, that should come.

And when they had all gone forth and had witnessed for themselves, they did cry out with one accord, saying:

Hosanna! Blessed be the name of the Most High God! And they did fall down at the feet of Jesus, and did worship him (3 Nephi 11:1-17)

I've read this passage many times and it never ceases to amaze me that the Lord not only loves us enough to visit us from time to time.but also that He takes the time for all to personally see and feel the wounds in His hands. He wants us to k ow Him and it's often our own thoughts and actions that keep us from.knowing Him like we should.

So are we ever going to get to hear your views on Moroni, or you just going to pretend like that subject doesn't matter to your religion?

Funny how a Jewish rabbi would use words with middle-English and Latin origins as with 'nevertheless' and 'notwithstanding.' To say nothing of the "Behold I am Jesus Christ whom the prophets..." those prophets meaning nothing to natives in North America. So odd he'd use them to establish his legitimacy.

Prophets would mean something to readers of such a text, but nothing to people of the time supposedly being addressed.

When He is appearing to Israelites who knew the prophets it makes perfect sense.

The first writer of the Book of Mormon was a man named Nephi. He wanted to leave the testimony of three witnesses for the coming of Christ. They were himself, his brother Jacob, and the prophet Isaiah.

"And now I, Nephi, write more of the words of Isaiah, for my soul delighteth in his words. For I will liken his words unto my people, and I will send them forth unto all my children, for he verily saw my Redeemer, even as I have seen him.

And my brother, Jacob, also has seen him as I have seen him; wherefore, I will send their words forth unto my children to prove unto them that my words are true. Wherefore, by the words of three, God hath said, I will establish my word. Nevertheless, God sendeth morewitnesses, and he proveth all his words.

Behold, my soul delighteth in proving unto my people the truth of the coming of Christ; for, for this end hath the law of Moses been given; and all things which have been given of God from the beginning of the world, unto man, are the typifying of him.

And also my soul delighteth in the covenants of the Lord which he hath made to our fathers; yea, my soul delighteth in his grace, and in his justice, and power, and mercy in the great and eternal plan of deliverance from death.

And my soul delighteth in proving unto my people that save Christ should come all men must perish." (2 Nephi 11:2-6)

The Book of Mormon warns us of the danger of Secret Combinations. Secret Combinations were first instituted on this earth when Cain learned the secret works of murder to get gain. These secret works have made their way through time and are a threat to our civilization. Wicked men of these secret societies infiltrate government and seek to overthrow freedom. This was the case with two great civilizations of the Book of Mormon. The book is a warning to our day to take heed and not allow these secret combinations that infiltrate our government to overthrow our freedom. The Book of Mormon also gives a warning that when the people of America become ripe in iniquity, they will be swept off of this land. The Book of Mormon is a second witness with the Bible that Jesus is the Christ, the savior and redeemer of the world. Eventually he will come and destroy the wicked and restore peace back to this world.

Ether 2:8-10
8 And he had sworn in his wrath unto the brother of Jared, that whoso should possess this land of promise, from that time henceforth and forever, should serve him, the true and only God, or they should be swept off when the fulness of his wrath should come upon them.
9 And now, we can behold the decrees of God concerning this land, that it is a land of promise; and whatsoever nation shall possess it shall serve God, or they shall be swept off when the fulness of his wrath shall come upon them. And the fulness of his wrath cometh upon them when they are ripened in iniquity.
10 For behold, this is a land which is choice above all other lands; wherefore he that doth possess it shall serve God or shall be swept off; for it is the everlasting decree of God. And it is not until the fulness of iniquity among the children of the land, that they are swept off.

This thread proves that most here will NEVER have a decent discussion to weigh opinions and instead just goof around and insult the person trying to have conversation on why he believes what he believes.

Meanwhile. What is a moroni? AND NO SMART ASS REMARKS EITHER.

It's sort of like a macaroon, but made from sugared pasta.

Moroni was the last prophet to live and write on the plates which became the Book of Mormon. His father's name was Mormon. Moroni was the angel who delivered the plates to Joseph Smith.
