Chris Hayes Envisions A World Where No One Has A Job Mining Coal

Why would you be "happy" that China and India's use of coal will get greater even as we reduce ours? Correct me if I'm wrong, Sparky...but don't we inhabit the same planet? Instead of an idiotically naive energy policy that ignores reality...don't you think we'd be better served working to learn how to burn coal cleanly and then sharing that technology with those "backward countries" instead of ignoring their ever increasing use of coal while we saddle our own nation with the inflated costs of "green energy"?

Or would that make too much SENSE?

The problem is you guys never see anything other than "How can a few assholes get rich" as a solution to a problem, even if the problem never gets solved.

There is no reason for ANYONE to still be using coal in the 21st century. Other than a few assholes are making money off of it. And, yes, the fact that China is degrading her own environment- and the rest of the world- is really part of the problem.

But isn't going to be solved by the imaginary "Clean Coal" technology you guys claim is right around the corner.

Progressives like yourself aren't REALLY trying to fix the problem with coal, Joey! What you're doing is screwing over American industry by making them compete against countries like China and India (who already have an advantage of lower wages) with the added handicap of higher energy costs.

The burning of coal is much cleaner now than it was a hundred years from now. If we put as much thought into developing cleaner ways to burn coal and then passed that technology along to countries like China and India we'd actually decrease atmospheric temperatures. Instead, idiots like you want us to cut our use of coal...switch to higher cost green energy sources...while countries like China and India continue to burn coal and pollute.

It has ZERO to do with making money off it by the way! Most of the energy alternatives are going to be brought about by the same people that now control the carbon based energy sources. If you didn't have your head up your ass about "rich people" you'd recognize that fact!

Only because Free Traders like you think they shouldn't have to pay tariffs when they export their shitty products here.

What do "tariffs" have to do with China and India mining coal in their respective countries and then burning that coal to power their industries?

You still don't get it that China mines far more coal than we do...do you, Joey?

There's like the real world...and then there is "make believe Joey world"!

In the real world China and India mine over 50% of the coal taken out of the ground each year while we take out less than 12%. But in "make believe Joey world" imposing a tariff on coal is going to effect what China and India do with coal usage. It's so stupid you can't help but laugh...

In "make believe Joey world" the United States imposes tough tariffs on Chinese products!

In the real world we desperately need China to keep buying our debt and that SO isn't going to happen.

Like I said...so stupid you can't help but laugh...

We don't need China to buy our debt. We just tax the rich and make them pay their fair share.

Once again you demonstrate an incredible ignorance of the real world, Joey. If we were to tax the top 10%'s income at a 100% rate it STILL wouldn't come close to paying our debt. "Taxing the rich more will fix the problem" is the mantra that progressive politicians feed you naive liberals so that you'll let them spend more money we don't have.

i know, you heard that on Rush Limbaugh.

funny, when the rich used to pay their fair share, before your Boy Ray-gun messed it up, we did a pretty good job living within out means.

It's a pretty simple concept, Joey. We're taking in about the same amount percentage wise in revenues as we always have. The problem is that we're spending a lot more now than we used to because we now have massive entitlement programs that are extremely expensive. It is what it is and has nothing to do with Rush Limbaugh, Bill O'Reilly or Rachel Maddow's opinions on it.

Uh, no, we aren't taking in enough. That's the problem. Yes, entitlements are more expensive because people are living longer and working folks don't earn as much... that's the problem.

But let's give the rich another tax cut! That'll do it. Laffer curve. or something.

Once again, Joey...if you were to tax the top 10% of Americans at a 100% rate (which I don't think anyone thinks is ever going to happen!) it STILL wouldn't bring in enough revenue to cover the rapidly increasing costs of our entitlements! So stop your nonsense about the "rich" needing to pay more because that's nothing more than smoke and mirrors from you progressives. Call it like it is, Joey! In order to pay for the entitlements you on the left demand...the Middle Class is going to have to pony up big time in taxes.

So tell the Middle Class what their choices really ARE, Joey! They can start paying a lot more in taxes or they can tell our government to stop spending so much.

Again, Clinton had the rich paying their fair share, and we had balanced budgets, so that argument doesn't fly.

The only 'rapidly' rising entitlement is medical costs, and we could get those under control with single payer and ending Corporate Welfare like Medicare Part C.

We had balanced budgets, Joey because a Newt Gingrich led Congress wouldn't let Bill Clinton spend the way he wanted to...and we also had the Dot Com boom that brought in HUGE amounts of revenue during the first seven years of the Clinton Administration.

Unless you can't handle 8th grade math this really isn't hard to figure out! If taking 100% of the income of wealthy people STILL won't pay for the entitlements that the government has obligated itself to...then it's obvious that one of two things is going to happen! Either those entitlements will have to be cut...or taxes will have to go up substantially on not only the wealthy but on the Middle Class!

Guy, the wealthiest 1% have 43% of the wealth. Since the GDP is 18 trillion and they have 43% of that, that means they have about 8 trillion.. They could MORE than pay for our entitlements if we took that every year.

Clinton's tax increases and the fact he cut wasteful military spending did more to balance the budget. Oh, yeah, and we had nearly full employment. Man, what a fucker that Clinton was. Nobody elect his wife!

What you liberals always seem to forget about the Clinton years is that he lowered the Capital Gains tax from 28% to 20% to spur the economy...signed an increase in the death tax exemption to $1,000,000 from $600,000...and signed into law both the creation of Roth IRAs and increases in the amounts people could put into tax free IRAs.

Ah, so you don't want tax income of the wealthy, Joey...you simply want the government to seize their wealth?

Yes, those things were forgettable because they had no effect on the economy.
