*ponders*

You think China will loan us the money to go to war with them?

*contemplates*

If we win... Do we have to pay them anything back? Either the money we owe them now, or the money we would have to borrow to go to war with them?

*discombobulated*

We can't go to war with China. Too much of a paradox.

It seems the troll doesn't really want to discuss this, but the fact of the matter is that while China is nowhere near US naval power now and won't be in the near future, they are not sitting idle. They are an emerging naval power in Asia and are pursuing a deliberate course to achieve certain goals that could, even without pulling even with the US, greatly change the dynamic in sea power in the region. Only short-sighted fools would comfort themselves by declaring "no way can China compete with the US Navy today" and leave it at that. You can be sure the US Navy is not looking at it that way.

Remember the last time people were really, really sure there wouldn't be another war? It was part of the reason for the next one.

Um,no, actually everyone expected there to be another war with Germany.

That's why France spent millions of francs on the Maginot line, for all the good that did.

Again, the world is too interconnected to make a war worth it.

Still not following your point.

We have a Navy 20 times as strong as China. IF China were to attack us, their fleet would survive at best, 40 minutes. Does our Navy have missile defense systems? Yes they do. If China develops a new threat, do we have to counter it? We always have

You're an ignorant moron. Thankfully for you, your betters make the decisions that will probably keep you safe for some time to come.

Chinese President Urges Navy to Prepare for War

Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday urged the Navy to prepare for military combat, amid growing regional tensions over maritime disputes and a US campaign to assert itself as a Pacific power.

The Pentagon however downplayed Hu’s speech, saying that Beijing had the right to develop its military, although it should do so transparently.

“They have a right to develop military capabilities and to plan, just as we do,” said Pentagon spokesman George Little, but he added, “We have repeatedly called for transparency from the Chinese and that’s part of the relationship we’re continuing to build with the Chinese military.”

“Nobody’s looking for a scrap here,” insisted another spokesman, Admiral John Kirby. “Certainly we wouldn’t begrudge any other nation the opportunity, the right to develop naval forces to be ready.

“Our naval forces are ready and they’ll stay ready.”

State Department spokesman Mark Toner said: “We want to see stronger military-to-military ties with China and we want to see greater transparency. That helps answer questions we might have about Chinese intentions.”

Hu’s announcement comes in the wake of trips to Asia by several senior US officials, including President Barack Obama, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

US undersecretary of defence Michelle Flournoy is due to meet in Beijing with her Chinese counterparts on Wednesday for military-to-military talks.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao last month warned against interference by “external forces” in regional territorial disputes including those in the South China Sea.

And China said late last month it would conduct naval exercises in the Pacific Ocean, after Obama, who has dubbed himself America’s first Pacific president, said the US would deploy up to 2,500 Marines to Australia.

So we have a build up of US forces and a Chinese response of building up its own forces.

You are the one afraid to enter an open discussion. Cutting and pasting links is not presenting an opinion. What do you think the threat from the Chinese is and what should we do about it?

As the Chinese increase their naval power, the United States deliberalty decreases its naval power. That makes for a better US navy is an idea only in the mind of the leftist.

We are not decreasing our naval power. We are responding to existing threats. Much of our Navy was built to respond to cold war threats. They no longer exist. The days of a WWII Naval battle are gone. Our current fleet revolves around the carrier task force. Like the Battleship, their days may be numbered if they can't be defended

How about every post you have made on this thread? What, do you think you're being 'cute'? You think it isn't painfully obvious that you are just trolling this thread? Almost every 'response' from you has had nothing to do with what you were supposedly quoting. Again and again you have ignored the fact that the issue isn't one of China's navy today vs the US Navy today. Do you really think your trolling isn't completely transparent? I've even tried to take you seriously, and you have just continued to troll every time. You're just being an asshole for the sake of being an asshole.

What do you think the threat from the Chinese is and what should we do about it?

The threat is that, in time, China could develop the ability to freeze the US out of key areas of Asia, including vital shipping lanes and militarily significant parts of the region. If we just close our eyes to it and wait, China will eventually achieve these aims. We need to assess carefully what China is doing - what their short and long-term strategies are and what technologies they are developing - and take steps to ensure we maintain our military and strategic advantages. Unfortunately, certain people of certain political leanings think that we can be prosperous and secure while gutting our military in general. These people would hinder our efforts to keep apace with this growing threat until - of course - it is too late.

When both sides posesss weapons powerful enough to destroy the planet, not really.

I'm personally not willing to suffer armageddon because Beijing decides they are going to retake Taiwan. NOT MY PROBLEM.
