FT: China takes lead in financial deals

Deals and capital raisings in China’s booming financial services sector have outpaced those in the US for the first time since records began in 1995, fuelled by a wave of refinancings by Chinese banks needing to repair their balance sheets.

There have been $36.2bn-worth of deals in China’s financial sector so far this year, compared with $26.2bn in the same sector in the US, according to data from Dealogic.

Bankers said the increase in deal flow was being driven by large refinancings by Chinese banks as they move to shore up their capital this year, rather than full takeovers.

“The Chinese government has been rigorous and disciplined about maintaining strong capital ratios in the banking system and as a result one may see more and more capital allocation and reallocation among financial services companies,” said John Studzinski, head of Blackstone’s global advisory business.

In response to the financial crisis, Beijing ordered a credit-fuelled investment boom in late 2008 to boost flagging growth and in 2009 Chinese banks handed out roughly double the volume of new loans extended the previous year.

don't bore me with mere billions....

Until China can rack up a $1.7 trillion deficit they aren't even in our league

Does this mean communism is a better system of barter than capitalism? ;)

Many "men" will always strive to exploit their fellow man.
It hides under several facades. Business, Religion, society, etc.

It means Communist China embraces Capitalism more than American Democrats

It's a falsehood to even call them communists anymore.

They are a whole new animal, and have learned to embrace Capitalism while still keeping the more oppressive elements of Communism :)

And Of course they are booming, We keep buying their crap!

After November we need to send Obama, Dodd and Barney Frank to China

And the following is most likely resulted from Sarbanes/Oxley:

"2009 will go down as the year China ascended to the top of the IPO heap.

Businesses from the Middle Kingdon accounted for 183 deals in the year. The U.S.? Just 54.

Chinese companies alone sold $50.4 billion worth of shares, which accounted for 45% of the global IPO volume, according to data tracker Dealogic. The U.S.? $24 billion.

China International Capital finished as the top bookrunner globally–the first time a Chinese bank had done so. Prior to 2009, a Chinses bank had made the top 10 globally just once–China International Capital ranked ninth in 2000, according to Dealogic."

You are basically right but you understated it.

They were never commies. They were top down authoritarian dictators. And they only embrace what serves them while ignoring all of the included "other" that doesn't.

China will never play within any rules that govern the world except to the degree that they benefit as a result.

If you know anything about Chinese business ethic it is extremely cut throat and takes pride in cheating others. Same is true with North and South Korean' business ethics. "getting over" on foreigners is honorable, in almost any way that it can be accomplished.

The ends justify the means.

The Chinese avoid audited accounting numbers so there is no way to check how closely what they say and what is real go together. That is really dangerous.

Republican Senate Nominee Carly Fiorina fired tens of thousands of Americans and sent those jobs to China where she supported building two industrial complexes employing 600,000 people.

Those people in China are working for between a hundred and three hundred dollars a month, NOT A WEEK, a month. Republicans are angry Americans won't work for between a hundred and three hundred dollars a month.

They tout Carly as a "fiscally conservative Republican" who will bring "fiscal responsibility to California" and this country.

Between 100 and 300 a month.

I'm old having grown up in the cold war, and lost a grandfather thanks to a filthy commie so I'm under the biased opinion that anyone doing business with a communist country should be executed as a traitor.

Hey, I resemble that remark. I was one of those HP employees. For her crimes should she should be executed although she was just following the status quo. Mark Hurd was better, but then he banged that hot contracter. Actually met him once.
