As pointed out, great risks, but could have great rewards. A transcontinental railway had never been built before, and to start that project in a nation torn by a bitter civil war looked to be insane, but we did it. And the Interstate Highway System was a very costly project, indeed, but has paid it way many times over. The Apollo Project was our last great risk, we were successful, and part of the payback is the very system we are using to communicate. If we do not remember how to dream big in the near future, we will have ceded the leadership of the world to the Chinese. And they will have earned it.
Dunno. Looking at the map, the jiahdis May fuck with them allot. Big dreams pay off in a big way, but fail just as spectacularly on the regular.

Wrong approach. I am not saying that China is a wonderful country. What I am saying is that they are capable of dreaming large, and if they are successful, their work will be rewarded.
In the meantime, all of our politicians are busy contemplating their navels. We have many projects that need doing. From replenishing the Oglallala aquifer, to putting grids to where the power is in the form of wind, sun, and geothermal. We should be working with our neighbors, north and south, to improve means of travel in North and South America. High speed trains that run on electricity rather than jets that burn hydorcarbons would be a boon to our nation. China now has more high speed rail than the rest of the world combined. If we fail to dream big, they will be the dominant nation before 2050.

Russia represents a military threat. Their economy is third world. China is not yet first world, but they are advancing rapidly toward that status. And they have very ambitious economic plans. If carried out successfully, they will be the dominate nation by 2050.

Maybe for his own gains, that's to be seen whether future Chinese leaders will carry this on, or move towards enriching themselves like previous leaders.
