Chicago Teachers Reach Deal...NOT SO FAST....

80% of their students are failing as they're getting paid some of the highest wages in this country. Of course, I want not to be judged.

FUCK YOU MARXIST UNIONS. Time to destroy them.

And you step in and take their place, right?

I wouldn't want to teach the third world that makes up half of Chicago. These teachers have failed.

It's time for teachers to accept the fact that the district is a $ billion in the hole and they need to be evaluated on the progress that the students make or not make within limits. They had a framework of those details in the settlement and the Union President had said it was a good contract. Now they want more.

You cannot squeeze a turnip and get rich results...they have to be reasonable.

There are teachers waiting to take the place of some and others will accept the contract as offered if push comes to shove.

MAYOR TAKES CHICAGO TEACHERS TO COURT

Union opts to continue Chicago teachers strike; mayor takes fight to court

The week-old teachers strike in Chicago's public schools will continue into the new week, after a representative group of the Chicago Teachers Union decided not to end the walkout even though union leaders and school officials had reached a tentative contract deal.

The move left Mayor Rahm Emanuel vowing to go to court to force teachers back to work, calling Sunday's actions by the union "a delay of choice that is wrong for our children."

The mayor announced in a statement that he's asked city lawyers "to file an injunction in circuit court to immediately end this strike." He contended the strike is illegal because "it is over issues that are deemed by state law to be nonstrikable, and it endangers the health and safety of our children."

"I will not stand by while the children of Chicago are played as pawns in an internal dispute within a union," Emanuel said.

Yeah....they spend the best part of their lives educating your snotty nosed, over entitled, no consequence and/or parental involvement beats....because they don't care.

And God forbid the teacher...or even the school holds those beats accountable for their "I don't have to work for anything" attitudes....then you over-coddling parents blame the teacher and/or the school.

But yeah....they deserve to be paid like Walmart employees.

Really?
Do you think the average Walmart employee makes $76,000 a year?

You need to understand what the teachers are fighting for in the first place, rather than being an ignorant right wing piece of shit like Matthew.

The teacher's strike isn't about money, it's about the grading system and how Rahm wants even more charter schools.

Most anyone in Chicago with at least a moderate income when it comes time for their children to attend school either moves to the burbs' or sends their kids to charter schools. What's left for CPS is those with parent's that don't care about their children's education, kids the could care even less, and just having them show up for school every day is a major accomplishment.

The teachers are against more charter schools that Rahm is asking for and the current teaching scale that runs on a generic overall performance which would show them in a terrible light no matter what they do, which is why they are calling for an alteration in the grading scale.

yes they do....your little tax deductions don't want to work for their grades. Judging from your use of the English language....you were one of them back in your day.

Hell no they don't.

Poor things. Gotta live on a paltry 77K for 9 months of work... full health benefits... sick days... weekends off... all major holidays off... all summer off... how could anyone survive on that?

It's slavery I tell ya.

Chicago teachers union to continue strike

The Chicago teachers union decided Sunday to continue its weeklong strike, extending an acrimonious standoff with Mayor Rahm Emanuel over teacher evaluations and job security provisions central to the debate over the future of public education across the United States.

Union delegates declined to formally vote on a proposed contract settlement worked out over the weekend with officials from the nation's third largest school district. Schools will remain closed Monday.

Union president Karen Lewis said teachers want the opportunity to continue to discuss the offer that is on the table.

"Our members are not happy," Lewis said. "They want to know if there is anything more they can get."

She added: "They feel rushed."

She said the union's delegates will meet again Tuesday, and the soonest classes are likely to resume is Wednesday.

News from The Associated Press

Although we all thought a deal was reached, "the framework was there"as Lewis stated, the delegates decided not to vote, they wanted to see if THEY COULD GET MORE.

The schools are already in debt. They are second highest paid teachers in the nation.

There is a law that they cannot strike for any other issue than salary. It's time for the CHicago Schools to take them to court and get them back into the classroom.

Here's what's funny about the teacher strike in Chicago....Obama basically said that they are being greedy. This coming from a president that the UNIONS support...Now on the flip side...Obama was in support of the teachers and union in Wisconsin when they had their contract hoopla up there. And yet can't get behind the teachers out of his old stomping ground. What a slap in the face to the unions. And yet are STUPID enough to endorse this president.

:laugh2:

Ironic, isn't it?

They are just greedy and scared thay might lose their jobs for not being good teachers so they are throwing this big old hissy. Fire them all, there are plenty of teachers looking for jobs.

Interesting...they were offered money and turned it down....sometimes principles are worth more than money.

Right their pinciables are no performance evaluations...A worthy goal:eusa_hand:

I contend that you would be surprised at how many more children would go to charter schools if they were offered. Poor parents DO care. There just aren't enough charter schools to go around. The mayor is on the right track. The standards are higher and parents will be more connected with the schools. They try harder. Give them a chance.

Parents, who thought the strike was over are now scrambling at the 11th hour finding sitters for their kids tomoorow or calling their employers and telling them they cannot work. All because of the greedy union.

Stupid idiot, the city and other groups have provided numerous programs for the children during normal school hours and longer. Fail attempt to bash teachers.

look at the libs showing how mature they are.

Then why are you starting a troll thread claiming it's about them being greedy with their salaries? :eusa_eh:

Charter school teachers are not union. They opted out of the union and are not striking for wage increases.

Because they are, they want more money, less accountability. Sorry wrong answer. PArt of it is unions are old news and dont even know the issue. With teaching they have to take in retards with regular students, which then the tards take up more time and allow less with the normal students. That's a libtard concept saying a downs syndrome kid should be in with normal kids, because of his self esteem, cut the shit and seperate them like they have in the past and allow teachers to focus on normal OR retards but not both. And stop the year round schooling crap that some want to do. The problem isnt the amount of time in school it's how it's organized and done. Quit wasting time on life things like how to have a baby or live with a roomate and more time on real academic subjects. and for Gods sake bring CIVICS back as a class.
