Cherokees kick the blacks out

After the Civil War, the Cherokee nation voted to admit the slave descendants to the tribe.

Hmm I wonder what made them change their minds?
her

Because they were in danger of dying out.

Like I said, genetic diversity is key to survival.

I knew a Cherokee boy in school, he looked as black as black could be. He was fostered out to a very white family, far away from his tribal lands, because there were no Cherokee foster parents who could take him in. He was one of a few who had a really, really high blood quota, and he got a lot of money because of it.

At least that was my understanding when he was my brother's best friend. I really don't know much about the Cherokee, and my information came from him..and he was another child.

So alot of the Blacks they have turned away do have cherokee blood than right?

That isnt what I took from the story.

What I find fascinating with this. Is the Indian family unit is one of community and not based or set up like the euro model of 3 generations in the household.

Maybe the white man finally won them over.
Some tribes were more resistant to imported cultures than others. As such, treaties were made and broken throughout America's expansionist period, including most of the nineteenth century.

When all was said and done, they were driven from agriculturally advantageous areas into the worst farm areas. Later, some of them were blessed with quick riches from oil properties, but much of it was squandered by naivite in the marketplace, others prospered beyond my imagination.

Today, America has forgotten its debt to tribes who did share their land without prospects of ever getting it back, and as a consequence, the tribes are never consulted when somebody decides to expropriate national money on inviting yet more foreigners over here to reinforce their vapid claims on a continent that shakes, quakes, and endures violent tornadoes and hurricanes, plus we ran out of more landfill space a number of years around the turn of the 20th into the 21st century.

What we did to native American tribes is still the national ignominy that we ignore on a consistent basis. But at this point, what can we do? :dunno:

Our government continues to mess with the tribes.

You mean an race of of people who were slaughtered hold resentment toward the slaughters. That's unheard of! /s

I grew up in Oklahoma. There are several large tribes there; Comanche, Kiowa, Apache, Seminole, Cherokee, etc.

I went to school with many Indian kids. Indians are extremely racist against blacks and whites.

If you read your history you will find out that the last Confederate general to surrender was a Cherokee Indian. Many Cherokee Indians owned slaves to work their plantations in Oklahoma.

Since Oklahoma was not a state at the end of the Civil War. Blacks were not Freed there by the Emancipation Proclamation. They remained slaves in Oklahoma territory for another 20 years.

So nothing about their actions towards black's surprises me at all. :doubt:

This is interesting Sunni I had no idea Native Americans owned slaves although I did know they are pretty racist towards Blacks and Whites.
The Cherokee and the Choctaw were the 2 main slave owning tribes in Oklahoma Territory. I am not sure how many slaves the Cherokee owned. But the Choctaw owned over 6000 slaves.

These 2 tribes and several others fought for the Confederacy. I do know that there was a battalion of Cherokee soldiers in the Confederate Army.

In the part of Oklahoma I grew up in there were small towns that were composed of all black descendents of Native American slaves mainly from the Comanche tribe..

This is interesting stuff Sunni, no one ever talks about it and it is definently not taught in schools.

And I doubt you know that free blacks owned slaves as well. Most blacks don't know this or refuse to acknowledge this fact.

All races have been slaughtered, enslaved, and booted off land by another.

Why is it okay for Indians to preserve their blood, but not say whites?

tribal roles for the eastern band have been closed for quite a while.....or make impossible to qualify for....you must be listed on the 1924 role to even be considered

Cherokee NC Cherokee Tribal Genealogy - Frequently Asked Questions

since the casinos have moved in...everyone wants their finger in the pie....
It is still fairly easy to get on the tribal memberships in Oklahoma.

But you have to take a test to prove that you have Indian blood in you.

The tribe will provide you with a moderate amount of alcohol that you must consume in front of them.

(basically only enough alcohol that any other race would just get a slight buzz)

#1) Then if you stagger out of the building.

#2) Pick a fight with someone on your way out.

#3) Get into your car and then drive it into a ditch or roll it over.

You have passed the qualification test that you do have Indian blood.

And will be registered on the Tribes membership roll as an Indian.
