Police forces in Charlotte, NC, are preparing for unruly crowds when the 2012 Democratic National Convention comes to town, according to recent reports.

“Charlotte’s police department is already stocking up on riot gear and training officers in riot-control techniques in preparation for the event,” Newser reports.

Although the city already has a few hundred trained riot police, they have decided to recruit almost every one of them for intensive riot training—just in case.

So what goes into “intensive” riot training?

“It’s a very controlled, measured response with a lot of practice,” said Deputy Chief Harold Medlock. Medlock is overseeing the training, which also includes hundreds of officers from nearby police and sheriff’s departments, according to WSOCTV.com.

“The point of some of the tactics and the maneuvers that we use is to allow folks to have the time to do what we’re asking them to do,” Medlock said in the report.

“We want them to hear us as we move and do the things that we need to do, so you‘ll hear a lot of verbalization from our officers and one of the things you’ll hear is, ‘Move back!’” he added.

Medlock made sure to note that riot training is not unheard of for the city’s police officers. Hundreds of Charlotte’s officers have already been trained in riot control and have actually been called in to handle trouble in uptown twice in the last five years, reports WSOCTV.

But given the fact that the DNC will most likely be bigger than anything they’ve handled in recent years, Charlotte has decided to call up several officers from their regular beats to participate in the training.

A 5th grader could predict that.

But at the GOP convention, we can break out the caffiene to see than not too many of the delegates go to sleep. And, if they appear to be sleeping, be sure to check their pulse.

Seriously, any major political convention needs to have all the preperations in place for any eventuality that can be foreseen. I hear that they are also putting in a supply of Geritol, should the Teabaggers show up in force.

Of course, It would be tough to stay awake when Obama speaks.

They don't want a repeat of Chicago in 68.

Thought that is probably the best they can hope for.

What is the best they can hope for, Baruch"

This?

Subsequently, the Walker Report to the National Commission on the Causes and Prevention of Violence assigned blame for the mayhem in the streets to the police force, calling the violence a "police riot. It later became said that on that night, America voted for Richard M. Nixon.[23]

Chicago's infamous Democratic rainmaker and social issue hardon, Richard M. Daley is long dead.

Hopefully no repeat of those bad old days can be expected in Charlotte.

The protesters today are not the ones of the 60s. In the 60s men and boys had not become so effeminate that their warfare reached the level of baboons where flinging feces is a major offensive.

The protesters are going to need help from union thugs and looters.

I dont think so. The Police of today are very media conscious, unlike the 60's. Most likely they already got pictures of instigators up on a quark board and all that. I take preparation and training to mean more then batting practice.

But they probably can't even spell antidisestablishmentarianism. Which everyone who was anyone could spell in the 60s.
