OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - A day of demonstrations in Oakland that began as a significant step toward expanding the political and economic influence of the Occupy Wall Street movement, ended with police in riot gear arresting dozens of protesters who had marched through downtown to break into a vacant building, shattering windows, spraying graffiti and setting fires along the way.

Reap what you sow, America

Seems there was a judge somewhere forced the community to lay off protesters. I wonder if she hears them now?

You must spread more reputation around before giving it to editec again.

Oakland was where the police first started acting violently towards the protesters, and now surprise surprise, there's violence.

When the police show up, they are wrong.

When they are told to move the protestors or to break them up, they are wrong.

When the protestors won't move and the cops use physical force to move them, they are really wrong.

When the protestors are throwing rocks and bottles and the cops use mace and tear gas, well of course the cops are wrong.

Stores burn and are looted, cars are turned over and burned, and by standers are hit with rocks and bottles, but by God, it is naturally the COPS fault because they showed up to this "peaceful" protest.

Oakland is the city where four cops were murdered by a dip stick for no reason at all and the dip sticks family was "upset" that when the cops tried to take him into custody and he began randomly firing, they had to take him down.

Oakland is the butthole of America... I say let it burn. You get what you deserve...

So, what are the police supposed to do whenever a mob refuses to follow their lawful orders?
Didn't Oakland Police have a big list of crimes they weren't gonna' respond to anymore? Why can't they just add OWS to that and save even more money?

Actually the latter leads to the former.... you can't expect to run wild in the streets and that the general public will not demand that it be stopped.

You can't just do whatever the hell you want, whenever you want and wherever you want. It doesn't work that way.

The left wants civil war, that's the truth of it. They think they're fomenting a Marxist revolution and the fruiting of their dream to make America a clone of North Korea, but in fact they are just sparking civil war. The 21% can't win, all they can do is create chaos and bloodshed.

For many of them, I think that's the ultimate goal.

Be prepared. If you escalate against a mob, they escalate back. If you pick a random person off the street they'll tell you that. Oakland police should have expected violence after using violence and should have been prepared to act. This bout of violence follows a fairly long period of peaceful protest on the part of the OWS crowd. What you're seeing now is a mob reaction to violence.

This exact same reaction would have occurred if the police had used violence against the Tea Party.

But the police had no reason to use violence against the TP - we followed the law on all occasions.

OWS didn't.

The cops told them to.

They refused.

And, they were forced to obey.

Now, it's not OWS' fault?

Riiiiiiiiight.

The police are expected to follow the law, but that didn't matter to that group of pyromaniacs.

No more than the fringe Militia groups. Most of the OWS are a bunch of scared college kids that are looking out at a fairly bleak future after they were promised that if they worked hard, got good grades, went to a good school, and played by the rules they'd be ok. They're seeing the end of the American dream, and don't have a clue what to do about it.

When they turn violent, you deal with them. Until that point the best thing to do is to recognize they're a symptom and try to get at the cause.
