Will it hold up? Is it a harbinger?

GOP TAKES CONTROL OF STATE SENATE - New York Post

GOP TAKES CONTROL OF STATE SENATE
By FREDRIC U. DICKER

June 8, 2009 --
ALBANY -- Republicans appear to have retaken control of the state Senate this afternoon after two dissident Democrats crossed the aisle in a parliamentary coup.

"An historic change in leadership is taking place at this moment and a new bipartisan, coalition is being established that is bringing real reform to the Senate RIGHT NOW," according to a news advisory sent out by the GOP.

The Associated Press reported that two Democrats -- Hiram Monserrate of Queens and Pedro Espada, Jr. of the Bronx -- are poised to announce that they have decided to caucus with the GOP out of anger at Senate Majority Leader Malcolm Smith.

The flip gives Republicans a 32-30 edge in the chamber and ensures that Smith is longer the majority leader.

Democrats tried to leave the chamber at one point -- even turning off the lights briefly before order was restored.

Democrats said they plan to take the fight to court....

Sorry, but you really haven't been paying attention if you think one party is actually better than the other. Remember, all of Obama's policies are the same as Bush almost word for word.

Sorry I have. Sorry you didn't recognize such. Sorry, neither has Obama.

If the Dems are doing the same thing as the Reps did, then how would replacing the current Dems with Reps again change anything?

Ya, the policies are the same except for a few minor differences, Obama's are socialist and idiotic and not the best for the American people. Oh and Obama's America isn't a Christian Nation. Other than that though, its like Bush never left office.

I got slightly more out of it than that.

Now why would the Dems fight over control of the STATE Senate? Because NY is a typically blue state. Can't have NY turning purple or, God forbid, perhaps red. What the hell would become of the SOCIAL ISSUES?

The sad and dead American dream would be rainbow ...

Democrats have controlled state chambers like New York and California forever. Damn right they're to blame for the way things are in those states.

Records show the past, we are talking about the present, which the two parties are the same now ... except some very minor differences like special interests.

This is a good thread. Even though were talking about state politics here, it is a start. There just may be cracks in the dam, and this is the first sign of it. Not enough to formulate a trend, but just maybe...

Could be a crack across the Hudson as well.

minor ... unless you want to exercise your right to reproductive choice, protect the separation of church and state or keep government out of your bedroom or make sure Head Start, the FTC and the FDA are funded and morning after pills aren't blocked while protecting people who don't protect the environment.

oh wait... they're NOT the same.

More mature Democrats... and these are the self proclaimed smartest people in the world....:clap2:

During the coup, Democrats fled the chamber, turned out the lights, and cut off the Internet feed of chamber proceedings, leaving Republicans and their two Democratic friends to take the vote in the dark.

Ah, its only State government. I don't live in that state.

How did it happen? Democrats can thank their own: Pedro Espada of the Bronx and Hiram Monserrate of Queens, who turned their backs on their fellow Democrats and joined with Republicans.

True to form, KMAN is once again a day late and a dollar short. Threads merged.
