I get what you are saying but many of your guys answers is for the state to oversee it or fund these programs but wasn't that problem with our country when it first began. You only paid taxes to the state and therefore the fed gov't was failing and some states were not able to function the way others did. I know it was a different time but the answer to everything can't be for it to be a state issue.
I know one state shouldn't always support another but certain states don't have the revenue that others do.

At heart here for me at least Luissa is knowing that the taxes I pay are being spent on the university system or school system within the state I live for the most part. If I choose to send my daughters to an out of state school then I am made to pay "out of state" fees there, so that is how they recoup their taxes. Some states are not as wealthy as others your correct, but then again, it goes to whom those universities serve does it not? If a school wishes to aquire more funding then they do so within the boundries of the state in which they reside. I am aware of federal monies for research that go to colleges and am not advocating that all federal money leave the system. I'm simply saying that the States are better at knowing what is best for them in their individual states than the Feds are and as such so to are they better equipped at funding their own colleges and universities.

The point is this, to take from those that pay the majority of taxes in this country as well as business to support the entire country for things such as Universal HealthCare is Socialism and one of the guiding principles of Socialism is "Wealth Redistribution". I put this here to illustrate, that Obama see's all people as social equals in that, they all have a born right to a house, a job and healthcare and in order to achieve this , he has in essence created a climate of class warefare, straight out of the Karl Marx playbook. This are Not the guiding principles of this country , you do NOT have a right to healthcare in this country, nor do you I have right to a job or a house. If you want those things in this country you have to go out and work for them. It is NOT the responsiblity of the entire nation to see to it that each citizen has the same as his or her neighbor.Again, if you want those things, go and get them. It didn't stop many Americans from rising from poverty to achieve great things, You think Gen. Colin Powell was born wealthy no he was born in Harlem ? or perhaps, someone like Bill Gates for that matter whos mom was a stay at home mom? No they achieved what that have by going out and getting the things in life that they wanted, thats what this country is about.

They used to receive over $500 million in earmarks.
Now they receive half that.

Those are some pretty impressive cuts.

That surplus used to go straight to the government.
Now it goes back to the people.

Swing, first you will get nothing from me on the merits of the Bush Administration. However, I would say this your assesment of John McCains proposals are a little offbase. I am going to post just one of his proposals for cutting wasteful spending here. I invite you to visit his website and read a little closer for more and his long career of doing just that. Ever hear of the KC-X tanker? know why the AirForce deal with boeing to lease those tankers didn't go through? Ever hear of "Future Combat Systems" know why there is a bottoms up review on that program to cut out waste? Who is it in this campaign that want's young people to have an alternative to Social Security? I don't hear any of this from Obama, other than the same tired old democratic, themes I hear every election, "business is evil"," we will take care of everyone" , etc etc etc. They have been saying this in every election cycle since Jimmy Carter and you know what happened when they put him in office right? try 21% interest rates, inflation out of control, and an unemplyoment rate over 12%. So again, I will stand by my earlier statement that an Obama Administration will head this country down a road based on unsound, and tired principles of "Wealth Redistribution" as it applies in the Marxist fashion.

In 2007, she used the governor's line-item veto powers to cut $231 million in capital projects from the Legislature's spending bills, and in May she rejected proposals totaling $250 million.

Let me address that comment too Chris, you think that after 24 years in the Military that I don't deserve a retirement benefit? Let me put it another way, Just like any other job, when you go into it you know what the benefits and risks are, I knew what they were. So now I am getting the benefits of those 24 years and do not consider for one second that I am on anyones public "sugar teet". That's called work, you know that American principle where when you work hard you get the benefits and rewards of that work? I'm sorry if you feel my service to this country doesn't merit that, but there's a huge difference between what i'm talking about and what, your accusing me of. One is someone who would earn that right the other is someone who thinks that right is theirs simply by sucking in oxygen and being born in the right place.
