Change The National Anthem?

Yeah, change it to this one.
(Ignore the SaveEarth bull shit at the end. This is the only version I could find.)

No. I think we should keep the current National Anthem and when people sing it they should sing it the way it was intended to be sung and not try to add their own personal flair to the song. Also when you sing it, one should never grab at their crotch...

The Star Spangled Banner is notoriously hard to sing. The lyrics are a bit of tongue twister and most of us cannot hit the high notes. Should we consider changing over to something easier, like "God Bless America" or "This Land Is Your Land"?

Your thoughts?

LOL...yeah. Christina screwed it up at the Super Bowl yesterday!!!

You know what Madeline....if they didn't have to so carelessly by "jazzing it up" and just singing it as it's intended to be sung, it can be quite beautiful and moving. I've heard some who aren't so AFFECTED, do it quite beautifully, movingly, and traditionally.

Here's Carrie Underwood's version - I find this beautiful etc etc. How about you?

Absolutely not!

It's not how you sing, it's that you sing and know the meaning behind the words and what inspired it.

I can't carry a tune in a bucket with help from my family while reading instructions on how to do so.

But I will annoy those around me and embarrass my family by launching everything I got into singing the Anthem every time it plays.

No - The Star Spangled Banner should remain the national anthem. If you can't hit the high notes or get through some of the other parts - hum along - or sing in a lower key.

One thing is for sure - we should have someone who appreciates the song and deeply cares about it to be singing it. These various celebrities who sing some deranged performance of their rendition should be banned. They may put on one hell of a good tour performance in whatever genre they normally do, but the national anthem deserves a special respect for a great country and performed as such. The "show" should be left to the teams on the field.

Can anyone possibly forget how Roseanne Barr slaughtered the anthem?

Of course it is a moving song, American Horse, and of course it has the weight of tradition behind it.

It's more than that; I know when it's been well done and not mangled, because then it brings a tear to my eye and a lump to my throat. Just look at the foot-ball players in the video; they feel it too.

I don't think the reaction would be at all the same with yesterday's performance.

There was strong emotion in your version too; the players couldn't hold it back, as you plainly saw.

She was paid to do so.

she was actually hired to intentionally poorly sing the anthem. I know she's a comedian, and it paid to poke fun at people and things, but certain things should give anyone pause.

I didn't realize she was paid to put on such a performance - doesn't say much for her or those who paid her. Then, again, I've always thought Barr's performances were a reflection of her private life - vulgar as hell - somewhere way beyond trailer trash.

I think that having to change to the anthem because some self absorbed air head cannot remember the lyrics and feels they have to 'make the song' their own is a non starter. :doubt:

Are you familiar with Hérodiade by Strauss? I have been trying to nail the act 3 (first tableau in the house of Phanuel) solo of Jean down...but damn, I just don't quite have the range......:eusa_whistle:

It's not THAT hard..The trick is to start in a key you can maintain and be able to hit the notes without warbling or screeching.

^^ This is truth....

Keep the National Anthem as is...

I agree. Keep it as it is.

It depends on how good a singer you have also.

Can anyone ever forget Whitney Houston singing the anthem right after 9-11??

I sure won't. She knocked everyones socks off that night.

Hell. People were calling local stations to have it played.

Its a tough song to sing but Oh so beautiful when sung by a singer with a great voice.
