Catholic Church gives D.C. ultimatum

Catholic Church gives D.C. ultimatum on same-sex marriage issue - washingtonpost.com

Oh, but it gets more fucked up as to why they are not supporting it:

So, What Would Jesus Do?

Discuss.

And my own personal question:

Is The Catholic Archdiocese of Washington returning to the days of old by trying to strong arm people into believing what they say?

The Catholic Church is not doing anything different from what they have always done. They consider themselves above civil law.

I think they ought to stay out of civil law issues and stick to cleaning up the pedohilia in their own churches.

All Churches have a Right to speak on Morals and Ethics. Agreed, They should focus on Living what They Preach. They do try. How about You?

The Catholic Church lost moral authority when they moved pedophile priests around and allowed the molestation of boys and girls and the abuse of authority to continue for decades.

We all have a stake in speaking out to the Church about that.

The Catholic Church has every right to speka on morals and ethics. They would have greater clout if they walked their own talk more.

They placed themselves above criminal law in the pedophilia issue and now they place themselves above civil law in the marriage equality issue. They have every right to not marry gays and lesbians since it goes against their doctrine. They have no business interfering in civil marriage law. That's my position.

What's funny about the whole premise of this thread is that the liberals on this thread have this completely backwards.

It's not the Catholics that care more about gays and lesbians then helping the poor. It's the liberals here who do. They are the ones who insist on making it a law that gays and lesbians be accepted rather than the poor get helped. They are the ones who are forcing people of faith to take actions contrary to their beliefs rather than simply let them help others.

If the catholics have to withdrawal, then its not their fault. It's the idiots who impose these stupid laws on people.

If the Catholics had the courage to act on their beliefs...and same-sex marriage is allowed in DC...they should pull out of DC entirely.

Remember when Catholic priests refused to give their magical wafer to politicians they disagree with?

That is using "religion" as a tool.

Does anyone think that if a "magical" Jesus really existed, he would appreciate being made a "tool"?

That makes absolutely no sense. Perhaps youd like to flesh out your argument more fully. Explain how youve reached this conclusion. What assumptions you are using.

Do You mean like what the Government does with Tax Breaks? Like when They take Everybody's money (a vessel of Their God) and reward People who do what Simon says?
I refer to that practice as Pavlovian Response.

The way to get around the Communion thing is renounce the sin every Saturday at Confession, take Communion, and back to work on Monday. Catholic Girls have been benefiting from the technique for Centuries. There is something about Bureaucracy ...

Yes, and that's how the Catholic Church has operated for the past, oh, 1500 years. If you were Catholic, you'd know that, behind the scenes, it hasn't changed.

The Church plays hardball...always has, always will.
