Caterpillar is Closing Shop IN ILLINOIS!!!

If you were a company like Cat why wouldn't you move? If you move other communities they will let you foul their environment, quit paying taxes for awhile (then it's time to move again), and get all sorts of perks and benefits. It has nothing to do with business friendly environments it has to do with how much other communities are willing to give them.

P.S. when Cat does move they will not create as many jobs as you might think in their new location, as moving companies try to bring as many of their current employees with them. Unless they are looking to cut payroll, then everyone they hire in the new location will get minimum wage, part time hours and no Ins. It'll be like working at McDonalds.

AGAIN....Since CAT broke the union the average starting wage is around $12 an hour and NO BENEFITS. If they move elsewhere just how much will they pay YOUR citizens? $10 an hour? Of course, "Tennessee Jim-Bob" down to the trailer park will probably be thrilled with $10 an hour. I'll bet most of you wouldn't stand in line for those jobs.

.

Interesting how your arguments almost allways have some sort of insult. Tennessee Jim-Bob will be quite happy I'm sure. And what exactly will your now unemployed folks do? The smart ones will move and stay with the company...if they can. The dumb ones will stay and live off the dole for as long as they can and whine.

And really, someone who pushes a broom is worth more then 12 bucks an hour?

The ones who run the machines ALSO push the brooms. And get paid a whopping $12 an hour with no benefits to start. It's called a two tiered wage scale. (I know this since two cousins work there and my father retired from there)

CAT also forced retirees to double the amount of money they must pay for health care. (Please understand they have no recourse)

Now keep in mind they did all of this while reporting record profits for the shareholders.

That may sound like pure heaven to you but it's crap to me.

Well Caterpillar leaving Peoria would have a devastating impact on the community of Peoria. They might move to the Quad Cities area.

But what makes them so special that they shouldn't pay taxes? Everybody pays taxes. The Corporate tax rate will go down. But come on. I mean roads have to be paved, streets have to be plowed. I bet Caterpiller has benefited from Tax breaks more than they actually paid in taxes. Now the gravy train stops and they are bitching about it.

Cry me a river.

IN and IA both have taxes, so does the Fed. They'd still have to pay, just not as much. If it were insignificant, they wouldn't be considering.

Now I will say that there was a time that IL seemed worth the taxes. Unfortunately for it, that hasn't been true in 15 years at least, not for jobs, not for roads and other infrastructure. We pay for ultimate and get less than good. Caterpiller and other companies and individuals are making the right decisions for the right reasons. The price of corruption has become too high.

First....no decision has been made.

Second....they won't be missed as much as everyone thinks. They'll most like be hiring in at $10-$12 per hour, most jobs will be part time and no benefits.

Now granted they DO pay corporate income taxes but most states and communities will write those off to tempt them to relocate.

.

Geez....listen to all of you "experts" on Illinois.

First......Even with the recent tax increase Illinois is still lower than may, if not most states. It's middle of the road as far as income tax goes.

Illinois Income Tax Increase: Legislature Approves 66% Tax Hike

Go ahead. See how your state compares......

So don't make more of this than what's there.

Then no harm done. Which begs the question of why you posted so many posts about 'those that know IL, not!' or to that effect.

It sounds an awful-lot like average, ordinary, garden-variety extortion, to me....and, how strong a hand do they really have?

I can't believe I'm the only person who more-and-more-often notices Asian heavy-equipment being hauled-around on lowboys.

I've got about 35 miles of valley that used to be filled with steel mills. The rail head can be brought back up to speed within a few months time. When do you think Caterpillar would like to start moving in?

I'm sorry that your area is that desperate for part-time jobs that pay $10 an hour with no benefits. Things must really be tough where you live. They're not so bad here.

.

When you have all this space and 12% unemployment, yes we'll take jobs that start at $10 an hour. My bet is Cat will pay better than you want to believe.

Yep. They did it by breaking the union, reducing the workforce, cut employee wages and benefits in half, doubled what retirees have to pay in health care (the most vulnerable) and farmed a lot of their work overseas all while turning in record profits. They're a GOP wet dream.

Do you STILL think they're a GREAT company??

.

Yep. A company's role is to make profit. It's role is not to be a nanny for a worker throughout that workers entire life.

So you admit breaking up unions are a way to profit more. So....wouldnt it be responsible behavior for a government to break gov't employee unions, so that the taxpayers are getting more bang for their buck? I say yes.

The only thing a company owes;

fed taxes
State taxes, if they have any
payday, for the employees
safe work site

beyond that, people need to tend for themselves.

Shame the Big 3 didn't break the union, people might be able to afford their cars.

Actually there's a couple of things you left out

The Company Owes:

1. Potential investors the Truth about the company finances (not like Enron)
2. Current investors a return on their investment
3. Being a "good neighbor" in the community.

But sometimes good neighbors need to move away. "Good," doesn't mean being bled to death by state taxes and unionized rules.

And that would be a fool's bet. I know. CAT is in my back yard. CAT is where kids start, learn something and then move onto good jobs.

CAT is the Wal-Mart jobs of the manufacturing jobs.

I don't know what CAT pays in corporate taxes but I'm sure they have hordes of accountants to help them avoid paying them.

And, as previously posted several times CAT broke the union so that's a non-issue. That's why they get by paying $12 to $14 an hour and no benefits.

You were incredibly misinformed.

If you live in IL, then you are getting bombarded with this story. The CEO of arguably the most important Corporation in Illinois basically told Gov Douche Bag that IL better change it's business unfriendly climate (the highest corporate tax in the world) or they are shipping out!!!

Of course Gov Douche Bag responses the typical arrogant way of dismissing the warning and then going to the media calling the CEO of Caterpillar (who no doubt has a large ego) a liar! Why the move takes place Quinn, no matter what you do at that point, they aren't coming back!

On the evening news yesterday, they had a very large list of C-Corps that already made the jump to other states. IN is the biggest receiptant the IL C-Corp exodus. Governor Daniels must send Governor Quinn a thank you letter for making his job easier! I know WS is getting a good share also, no doubt businesses feel more comfortable with Walker at the helm than the Quinn!

SPRINGFIELD -- The chairman and CEO of Peoria-based Caterpillar Inc. is raising the specter of moving the heavy equipment maker out of Illinois.

In a letter sent March 21 to Gov. Pat Quinn, Caterpillar chief executive officer Doug Oberhelman said officials in at least four other states have approached the company about relocating since Illinois raised its income tax in January.

"I want to stay here. But as the leader of this business, I have to do what's right for Caterpillar when making decisions about where to invest," Oberhelman wrote in the letter obtained Friday by the Lee Enterprises Springfield bureau. "The direction that this state is headed in is not favorable to business and I'd like to work with you to change that."

Oberhelman said he's being actively courted to move.

Oberhelman didn't single out any specific problem with the state's policies in his one-page letter, but Dugan said the recent income tax increase -- signed into law by Quinn in January -- played a significant role in triggering the note.
The tax hike has led to attempts by other states, including Wisconsin, Indiana and New Jersey, to try and poach companies that don't want to stay in the Land of Lincoln.

Tell you what? Let the LIBS in that demented BLUE STATE continue their assault on business for thier over-regulated nanny-State...chase business off...go *BANKRUPT*...and then come to the American People for bailing out?

Not Only NO...but *HELL NO*...

KaleeFornia? You watching? listening?

We Red States will tell you NO. Fix your own damned problems.

These are some pretty BIG enclaves, and I'm just getting started......

interesting when you consider how much Caterpillar is investing in china as of late. Funny that they would bend over backwards for that actual socialist nation, yet here, its, lets pack up and move.

China is a step up to the stupidity of Obamanation.

And Oddly enough with China as one of our bankers...
