Caterpillar is Closing Shop IN ILLINOIS!!!

interesting when you consider how much Caterpillar is investing in china as of late. Funny that they would bend over backwards for that actual socialist nation, yet here, its, lets pack up and move.

Tons and tons and tons of earthwork in China and in India.
Much less regulations for operations in China. Steel is cheaper in China because of American steel tariffs.
It' s more cost effective to manufacture heavy equipment in China than to transport to China.
The American market for earthmoving equipment is flaccid.

It's nice to see that Indiana will be the beneficiary of this interstate move.
Thank you Gov. Daniels, from Hoosierland.

The entire state south of I-80 is pretty much full of decent people. Its the Chicago politics that run that state and most people hate it. They really did hijack the state and they will be hopefully paying the price......Oh wait they just elected Rahm Emmanuel to be the next crooked mayor..........

Just so everyone knows Chicago is not called the "windy city" because of the supposed wind. Its called that because of the politicians.

Reason # 1486 that I moved from IL

They will always be broke as long as the liberal ideas they worship stay the norm.

Bravo to you for moving :clap2:

I am getting very nervous about my company. Last year they shipped customer service to Texas. This year they increased the sales force (after decreasing it substantially in chicago) in New Jersey recently. They have moved the engineers to Texas and Chile. Marketing is the next rumored to be moving to Texas. From layoffs and transfers, my company's Chicago location has gone from 1,200+ employees (just two years ago) to under 500! If they move either compliance or sales (I split time between the two), then I have some tough convincing to do. I would love the move. Heck I never wanted to leave Arizona, but my wife would never consider moving! Do long distance marriages work? Heck not even short distance ones work! Scratch that idea!

Yea i hear ya Hook. Socialist/Progressive Dems know nothing about Business. What little they might know is all wrong. Business is "Evil" to most of these Wingers. It's just too bad Illinois allowed their Dem Wingers to thoroughly hijack their State. Looks like they're gonna have to pay a price for that. I wish you the best of luck. I really do mean that.

Geez....listen to all of you "experts" on Illinois.

First......Even with the recent tax increase Illinois is still lower than may, if not most states. It's middle of the road as far as income tax goes.

Illinois Income Tax Increase: Legislature Approves 66% Tax Hike

The rate increase might be the biggest any state has adopted in percentage terms while grappling with recent economic woes. Nevertheless, Illinois' tax rate would remain lower than in several other states in the region.

Go ahead. See how your state compares......

http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/ind_inc.pdf

Second....Since CAT broke the union the average starting wage is around $12 an hour and NO BENEFITS. If they move elsewhere just how much will they pay YOUR citizens? $10 an hour? Of course, "Tennessee Jim-Bob" down to the trailer park will probably be thrilled with $10 an hour.

So don't make more of this than what's there.

Your right, he pretty much was appointed.

I'll never forget the day when I woke up and the local news was blowing up because Mayor Daley had taken bulldozers and bulldozed big X X X X X s in Meigs airfield. Apparently his family had some property close by and he didn't need a small private airfield depreciating his the royal family's's property

Thats how Chicago politics goes down.....

Not the corporate tax numbnutz. Caterpillar gets hit with the Corporate tax and that is the highest in the world.

Yes 5% income tax isn't the highest per se, but it is one of the highest on the middle class. IL has a flat state income tax. Therefore, whether you make $5,000 or $50 mil a year you get a 5% tax. Individuals who make under $100K are taxed higher in IL than most states! I believe even more than CA!!!

And who needs to be an expert when you see on the evening news the CEO flat out saying that if IL doesn't make a change Caterpillar is gone!!! I trust his words over Gov Douche Bag arrogantly denouncing it.

About ONE YEAR, double price.

Whatever CAT is doing seems to be right

Yep. They did it by breaking the union, reducing the workforce, cut employee wages and benefits in half, doubled what retirees have to pay in health care (the most vulnerable) and farmed a lot of their work overseas all while turning in record profits. They're a GOP wet dream.

Do you STILL think they're a GREAT company??

.

Yep. A company's role is to make profit. It's role is not to be a nanny for a worker throughout that workers entire life.

So you admit breaking up unions are a way to profit more. So....wouldnt it be responsible behavior for a government to break gov't employee unions, so that the taxpayers are getting more bang for their buck? I say yes.

So, Catipillar stays in Illinois all of these years reaping the benefits of being in that state. And now, when the state needs Catipillar, they threaten to run away.

Not just corporations, which have a responsibility to stockholders, but also individuals. My last pay stub, covered 3/1-3/15:

Earnings: 880.00
Teachers health Ins Services, (I don't qualify for benefits, just deductions) -7.74
Teachers Retirement system (Right now I qualify for about $50 mo) -88.72
Teacher Medicare -12.76
IL Income Tax -35.31
Fed Income Tax -64.43

So I net 677.06 out of 880.

No health care. Don't qualify for food stamps. Go figure. I'd much rather deal with the smaller government, no handouts type of thinking.

You forgot to add that Illinois & especially the Chicago area has some of the nations highest sales taxes. Illinois ranks at the top of the most state & local taxes.

How about once? What state do you live in?

.

off hand I would say it's none of your fucking business asshole

Since you are to fucking dumb to get it through you thick skull that she's not sharing her privacy.

Watch it... he has a nasty mouth

I was in the Navy for over 9 years, if he can be original I'll rep him.

but demanding to know where someone lives, when they have made it clear they ain't sharen, is just childishly rude.

Not that I'm above acting like that.

I remember working on some refrigeration equipment on the roof of a Dominicks at 71st and Jeffery and there were fucking bullet holes in the compressor room. I wuz the only cracka in town....:eusa_shhh:

No Thumbs he is right per se. Other states like CA and NY may get into the 10%, but they have a progressive tax system. Nearly every state in which the individual makes under $100K has a lower income tax than IL's 5% (glup even CA has a lower income tax on people making $100K and under). Of the flat tax states only MN is higher than IL by a wooping .3%!

Goose can twist it any way he wants but IL tax on the middle class is near the highest in the country!

The only thing a company owes;

fed taxes
State taxes, if they have any
payday, for the employees
safe work site

beyond that, people need to tend for themselves.

Shame the Big 3 didn't break the union, people might be able to afford their cars.

Exactly right.

No employee is forced to work for any company. If they agree to the pay and benefits, then the company only owes them that.

Safe workplace, of course. We have a Dept of Labor to ensure that, thus, making unions obsolete. Dept of Labor is one of few federal gov't, non-military depts I am in favor of. Having that watchdog eliminates the need for unions, thus making our workforce more efficient (IF they union is busted). No need for union AND dept of labor.

Is it shitty for a company to treat retirees or long term employees badly in the end? Yeah. It is. Thats why we need to scold those companies publicly, and then the best workers will avoid them at all cost, thus making them less competitive. Eventually, they'll straighten out.

I grew up in Geneva(not Lake Geneva) and moved a few years ago. The only thing I miss is fishing in the Fox, Portillo's, and italian beef with peppers and mozzarella... yummmm!

I was paying $4800 a year in property taxes in IL, and when I moved to CO I am paying $1600 a year for a house worth the same amount of money on more land.

Well Caterpillar leaving Peoria would have a devastating impact on the community of Peoria. They might move to the Quad Cities area.

But what makes them so special that they shouldn't pay taxes? Everybody pays taxes. The Corporate tax rate will go down. But come on. I mean roads have to be paved, streets have to be plowed. I bet Caterpiller has benefited from Tax breaks more than they actually paid in taxes. Now the gravy train stops and they are bitching about it.

Cry me a river.
