Caterpillar is Closing Shop IN ILLINOIS!!!

interesting when you consider how much Caterpillar is investing in china as of late. Funny that they would bend over backwards for that actual socialist nation, yet here, its, lets pack up and move.
Well, if the state of Illinois had the potential to buy tens of billions more of tractor equipment, I'm sure the CEO would think twice.

How many more apples-to-oranges comparisons are you going to make? :)

Yep. They did it by breaking the union, reducing the workforce, cut employee wages and benefits in half, doubled what retirees have to pay in health care (the most vulnerable) and farmed a lot of their work overseas all while turning in record profits. They're a GOP wet dream.

Do you STILL think they're a GREAT company??

Um...:eusa_eh:

Sure, they're part of my government supported 401(k).

Why would they stay in Illinois? The Socialist/Progressive Democrats destroyed that State a long time ago. Have you seen Chicago lately? It's a miserable Third World War Zone at this point. Caterpillar will have to do the right thing and leave. Illinois has become Democrat-Hell. Time to get out.

I am getting very nervous about my company. Last year they shipped customer service to Texas. This year they increased the sales force (after decreasing it substantially in chicago) in New Jersey recently. They have moved the engineers to Texas and Chile. Marketing is the next rumored to be moving to Texas. From layoffs and transfers, my company's Chicago location has gone from 1,200+ employees (just two years ago) to under 500! If they move either compliance or sales (I split time between the two), then I have some tough convincing to do. I would love the move. Heck I never wanted to leave Arizona, but my wife would never consider moving! Do long distance marriages work? Heck not even short distance ones work! Scratch that idea!

Texas has no individual income tax. If you move you get an automatic pay raise. You might not get lower living expenses because some of the cities are run by Democrats. On the other hand, compared to Arizona, Texas is paradise. Parts of it even have seasons.

It's stunning the ideological differences on this thread. For example, one person said that Cat has been in Illinois "reaping the benefits" of all these years, and now cuts and runs when "Illinois needs them".

Thats a stark difference. See, no one OWES the government. No person, no company. Thats a big difference. The gov't is here to protect us from violence, and have modest regulation of other activity. But we're not indebted to our government. Thats call freedom. Catepillar owes the government of Illinois nothing.

"Illinois" is not the same as "the Illinois state government." Is that the ideological difference you're speaking of?

If you have to ask...

Spoken like someone who's never run a business. I'm guessing that being somewhat close to Michigan, CAT saw what the UAW was doing to the once vaunted US car companies and refused to go down the same path. If I were a CAT investor, I'd be very happy.

Geez....listen to all of you "experts" on Illinois.

First......Even with the recent tax increase Illinois is still lower than may, if not most states. It's middle of the road as far as income tax goes.

Illinois Income Tax Increase: Legislature Approves 66% Tax Hike

The rate increase might be the biggest any state has adopted in percentage terms while grappling with recent economic woes. Nevertheless, Illinois' tax rate would remain lower than in several other states in the region.

Go ahead. See how your state compares......

http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/ind_inc.pdf

Second....Since CAT broke the union the average starting wage is around $12 an hour and NO BENEFITS. If they move elsewhere just how much will they pay YOUR citizens? $10 an hour? Of course, "Tennessee Jim-Bob" down to the trailer park will probably be thrilled with $10 an hour.

So don't make more of this than what's there.

.

My state has ZERO State Income Tax.. ZERO.. Next!

Mine too! That's why I moved here. Now the libs are trying to ram through one to pay for social programs that aren't needed anymore because the population has dropped.

Yea i hear ya Hook. Socialist/Progressive Dems know nothing about Business. What little they might know is all wrong. Business is "Evil" to most of these Wingers. It's just too bad Illinois allowed their Dem Wingers to thoroughly hijack their State. Looks like they're gonna have to pay a price for that. I wish you the best of luck. I really do mean that.

The entire state south of I-80 is pretty much full of decent people. Its the Chicago politics that run that state and most people hate it. They really did hijack the state and they will be hopefully paying the price......Oh wait they just elected Rahm Emmanuel to be the next crooked mayor..........

Just so everyone knows Chicago is not called the "windy city" because of the supposed wind. Its called that because of the politicians.
