Capitalism VS. Socialism: Who are the Greedy ones?

I have to spread some rep around. but thanks for posting that. it's a classic.

:clap2::clap2::clap2:
It's so clear to me but while watching the clip you can see it's just not clicking with Phil and it won't click with the real greedy people of this nation. I've always believed the real greed in this Country in recent decades is with the unions and the welfare recipients. It's true... the rich want to hold onto what they have earned and the poor want to hold onto what the rich have earned as well. The union workers in most cases want to be compensated after retirement... in other words they want a portion of their existence covered by others... so, Whom is greedier than whom?......Hmmmmm?

Someone might point out that making money is not necessarily synonymous with earning/deserving it. The person could note that there is a disproportionate reward to a certain élite compared to the collective contribution. And such an individual might say all this while not being a 'socialist'.

Correct. Someone may break into your home and take things that don't belong to them. That's called stealing, and that person surely doesn't deserve what he took from you.

Now lets say that thief decided to "share" what he stole from you to some of your less-fortunate neighbors.

Does that make it any less of a theft, and him any less of a thief?

The Friedmanite neocons are the most unashamedly greedy people since the Huns sacked Europe.

If by greedy you mean that I want everyone to have the opportunity to provide for themselves and keep more of that they earn, then yes; I'm very greedy.

Capitalist make money by providing goods and services people want or need. If they don't do that. They dont get money. While from a spiritual aspect, i would encourage people not to be greedy, but if their greed greats goods and services for others, why is that bad?

Beautifully put.

I also quite sympathize with the quotes in your sig. I think this world needs more integrity and compassion; not government intervention.

This perspective totally accepts arms dealers selling machine guns in Africa to those who use children soldiers.

We're not advocating for anarchy. We believe there needs to be a government to enforce rules, and prevent things like children soldiers and whatnot.

Yes, the US government has clearly shown they are greedy. Not just by selling arms to murderers, but also by stealing from some to give to others (for a fee, of course).

it's the whole crux of the warfare/welfare state.

When one views philanthropy and what these (so called greedy) successful individuals contribute in time, energy, money, and expertise back to the community it speaks volumes.

What you're referring to isn't really greed honestly.

It only because greed when the capitalist begins to take more and more and more themselves to the point where they won't create goods and services for others.

That is true greed.

Why would they stop creating goods and services for others? They would stop making money that way.

True greed to me is wanting to take from the fruits of others.

Greed is wanting far more than is necessary for basic survival and comfort.

I like the Friedman clip. I could, and have, listen(ed) to him all day. That whole hour with Donahue is worth watching.

As is his Free To Choose series.

In fact, tooAlive, you will find clips of Thomas Sowell in that series. ;)

That kind of sounds like the near universal practice of continually seeking increases in productivity while refusing to pass a bit of those saving on the workers as pay increases effectively depriving them of the fruits of their labor.
