I'm sure you believe all that hype because it is precisely the kind of disinformation pumped into the brains of right-wing acolytes by such propagandists as Limbaugh, Hannity and Beck. But the fact is those countries whose citizens are most content ("happiest") are socialist -- Denmark being the outstanding example. (We don't find too many Danes, Swedes, etc., sneaking into the U.S.)

A new report reveals where people feel most positive about their lives.

According to a new report released by the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD), a Paris-based group of 30 countries with democratic governments that provides economic and social statistics and data, happiness levels are highest in northern European countries.

Denmark, Finland and the Netherlands rated at the top of the list, ranking first, second and third, respectively. Outside Europe, New Zealand and Canada landed at Nos. 8 and 6, respectively. The U.S. did not crack the top 10. Switzerland placed seventh and Belgium placed tenth.

The absence of reason, logic and good common sense in what you've said makes it clear that you're parroting the least refined of the propaganda available from the corporatist water-carriers who dominate the AM broadcast band and the Fox television channel. But if you would invest the slight bit of effort it will take to understand that those immigrants who take the trouble to come here either legally or illegally are not only willing but eager to accept the taxes and regulations which accompany the rewards that exceed what is available to them in their homelands.

Most Americans who pay taxes own or rent comfortable homes. They own good cars, live reasonably well and educate their children. They harbor a casual dislike for taxes but are willing to pay them. The most virulent protest against taxation comes from the wealthy, the super-rich, the pathologically greedy whose assets far exceed their most jaded aspirations but who are still not satisfied. These are the ones who pay propagandists to indoctrinate acolytes to believe that immigrants come to contemporary America primarily to avoid taxes.

Taxation in America is fair. It is fair when the low wage earner pays only 7% and it is fair when the multi-billionaire pays up to 91%. Those who disagree with this are the super-rich and the weak-minded acolytes who live hand-to-mouth but are brainwashed by voices on their radios.

Capitalism is more than free enterprise. If not rigidly controlled by socialist regulations it inevitably leads to the kind of free-wheeling and greedy exploitation which has nearly caused our economy to collapse and still threatens to do so. There is nothing wrong with wealth but excessive wealth is toxic to democracy. And the objective of the capitalist is the accumulation of unlimited wealth. They are never satisfied. And that is why they must be heavily taxed or they will suck the Nation dry -- as they are trying to to do now.
