your dreams
I know that presidential candidates always promise things they can't or won't deliver, but my gawd, Obama seems to have taken it to a whole nutha level.

Is there anything, anything at all that Obama expressed as part of his campaign platform that I can point to and say he made or is making good on it?

The reason I ask is because I'm really looking for help here. I'm going to be visiting some relatives next week, one in particular that is a republican sheep, and he always wants to talk politics and shit on all things democrat and liberal. And of course I love playing devil's advocate and so far I've always kicked his ass in these debates. However this time I fear that I will be entering the duel with little or no firepower. Can someone allay my fears and provide me with some ordnance to take into the coming battle? :eusa_pray:

WOW - Some of these promises are scary.

No. 5: Expand the earned income tax credit

Really? So now even more people will be collecting a refund that is more than they actually paid in, making it not a refund at all?

No. 6: Create an Advanced Manufacturing Fund to invest in peer-reviewed manufacturing processes

No. 7: Double funding for the Manufacturing Extension Partnership, a program that encourages manufacturing efficiency

More government investment in business?

No. 15: Create a foreclosure prevention fund for homeowners

BAILOUT

No. 16: Increase minority access to capital

More racism

No. 17: Require economic justification for tax changes

Who decides ? Oh yeah the socialists

No. 18: Provide option for a pre-filled-out tax form

what a totally asinine thing to spend money on. who's so fucking lazy they can't fill out an online form?

No. 22: Require automatic enrollment in IRA plans

Really something else I HAVE to buy?

No. 27: Change standards for determining broadband access

What the hell is the government doing getting involved in this?

No. 30: End no-bid contracts above $25,000

This promise lasted about 5 minutes

No. 43: Sign the Employee Free Choice Act, making it easier for workers to unionize

Just what we need, more fucking unions

Seeing as "Change the way we do things in Washington " is not on the "broken Promise" list, we must consider how accurate it really is.

Likewise, breaking the "no new taxes to anyone making less than 250K" promise has a lot more weight than keeping the " expand the senior corps volunteer plan" promise.

A campaign promise in reality is one that is said at least once on the campaign trail.

In the mind of the people, a campaign promise refers to those that are part of his platform.

Well, his platform was :

Change the way we do things in Washington
No New taxes to anyone making less than 250K
Close Gitmo
Pull out of Iraq in 6 months.

Seems he is 0 for 4.

But please....spin all you want. I did not lie to you. Your messiah did.

Obama is what happens when the citizenry looks to the government to solve all of their problems. He has no one to blame but himself. He made a lot of promises.......

Couple things. I'm not the one spinning here. That site lists almost every promise on issues Obama made, and then backs it up with a sourced link. I'm not spinning, and neither is the site, that's the count on his promises. All from the campaign trail. The site doesn't weigh them to terms of importance or grandeur compared to others, its simply a count on the number of promises he made and the status of them during his presidency. To do so would be disingenuous, because different people would rate different ones higher than others would. It's subjective, so ranking them would be far too difficult without them getting some flack for it.

These promises are all ones he made on the campaign trail, and they are technically part of his platform. Just because you remember four things (which is really disingenuous, are you telling me Obama campaigned on four things? Bullshit!) does not make it so. Please, back up all four parts of his platform, tell me where he said those four were the only parts of his platform.

Or you could make it easier on yourself and, y'know, go with the well-sourced site I posted and try not to deny reality too much.

Where's bin Laden?

Will Obama bring out "bin Laden" in time to save his reelection chances in 2012?
