Canadian Government Investigates Farmers for Using Child Labor

It's the Occupational Health and Safety Division (OHS) of Saskatchewan investigating the family because of a complaint.

The family was breaking the law regarding minors working for them.

The article clearly states that the children of farmers are mostly exempt from general labour laws. So there doesn't appear to be an issue with their own kids except they are not allowed to work in the processing plant.

But here's where the Covlins crossed the line.

"The Covlins also frequently employ local teenagers under age 16 in their butcher shop.

Upon learning the rules Tuesday, the Covlins acknowledged they are violating the province's labour laws by employing those teenagers...."
