This is why I keep gong back to Cape Breton -- this sort of thing goes on literally every day.

Oh boy the music forum is where every one can put their politics at the door and love where they've been and tell others about it.

My east coast is a tale to tell on the best of days. You actually know Antigonish? Amen I am so thrilled.

I've had the best story of my life because I was a rocker up here that worked canuck bands from coast to coast. I got paid to do this shit. :eusa_shhh:

This one tour that took me east and OMG the bars are wild there was a really weird song by a group from Alberta, called the Rodeo Song.

Even though I was a pro at getting music on the radio, uh uh on this one. Hey it was the 80's.

I worked every bar across Canada. But the east was my favorite. They're crazy out there.

Oh aye, Antigonish is the last "urban" stop before the causeway to the island, a good stop for gas, groceries and maybe a meal. Plus, it's a place name I just love to say out loud. "AntigoNISh, AntigoNISh, AntigoNISh". Still wondering what their problem is with Gonish...

I first saw this pair not in Antigonish but in Chéticamp at the Doryman. After playing a long time they put their axes down and I thought they were taking a break -- no, they just swapped instruments and the music went just as vital as before, even better. It didn't stop all afternoon. What a show - I still have the cassette around here somewhere. They've gone on to individual careers by now. Their grandfather made some of the first Cape Breton Scottish music records in the 1930s.

Wonderful Grand Band have always brought a smile to my face. UIC is unemployment insurance. It's not them live; but you'll see our treasured Newfoundland.

Cowboy Junkies- I Don't Get It

Years ago I worked on staging/producing a summer concert season, dealing with prima donnas...
Lyle Lovett insisting the house grand pianos be moved out so he can bring in his exercise equipment from one of his three semis....
Faith Hill's trucks unloading a huge road case that took seven people to move, open it up and there's another concert grand in there (even though we've already got three in-house) and then we find out it's got no harp and no keys, it's just a shell, and they set it at an angle and put a cheap electric Yamaha on it so the audience thinks it's a real grand

The Commodores with their fireworks... Chicago demanding more and more spotlights... it goes on and on, but the other end of the spectrum was Cowboy Junkies. What a nice, nice bunch to work with. No multi-trailers full of bullshit -- hey came in with a single horse trailer that carried all they needed. A nice carpet to spread on the stage and the show goes on, and it was every bit as good a show as any of the others. You really get to learn who comes out to baffle the audience with bullshit and who comes out to play the music. Junkies rock.

gotta say, I didn't much like it the first time I heard it...

but the more I listen to it, the more it grows on me...
