Can you 'fess up to your party's warts, can you dare?

Can you vocalize/post what the views or platforms of your party's/group's you find difficult to stomach and why?

My party is the Libertarian party and any politician advocating classical liberal views, regardless of the party in which they reside.

The thing I tend to criticize about my fellow Libertarians is the tendency to speak of end goals without the need to PHASE in the policies we want to see. For instance, all libertarians agree the federal government has no place in the healthcare market...but we can't realistically eliminate medicare overnight. Similarly, we want less military interventionism...but we can't realistically bring all the troops home now. I wish Libertarians would put forth more plans that include phasing out current tactics while phasing in our freedom-oriented policies. It took us 100 years (40 at least) to get into this big government/fiscal mess, it's going to take a few years to get out of it.

I think the problem the Libertarian Party has is that it can't tell the difference between being unprincipled and being flexible. It's an all-or-nothing ideology.

Yes, you have a very valid point.

I don't think it's necessarily a bad impulse. I have a lot more respect for people who are consistent in a position than those who advocate for something, then pull back when they realize taking it out to the logical conclusion is unpopular (I haven't interacted enough with you to know your position on abortion, but that's a pretty obvious one, as most pro-lifers are unwilling to say women who have abortions should be thrown in prison).

WARTS:

BILL CLINTON, JOHN EDWARDS, and..................................Blago, a boil, not a wart.

I don't know if I can do that to the country at this point in time. I did that with Ron Paul in 08. Not that I think the world hinges upon my one vote, but look who we got. I'm going for the republican nominee this time.

I haven't voted for a Republican since Ronald Reagan. Actually, it was George Bush, the Elder, that made me switch parties to the LPUSA - could not vote for that man or be in the party that nominated him.

At any rate, I will cross party lines and vote for Romney, Obama MUST be stopped. I won't like Romney, I'll bitch and complain about him - but Obama MUST be stopped.

I doubt anyone is 100% pleased with their party - Republican or Democratic. I doubt anyone is 100% pleased with the views of the side of their political spectrum, either - left or right.

Can you vocalize/post what the views or platforms of your party's/group's you find difficult to stomach and why? And, if so, why not switch sides? And, if not, what do you view of the other side that is worse? Just generalities - and it doesn't matter if they are reality, but it is more important that it is YOUR reality.

For me, I'm registered Republican. I can just barely stomach the religious right. I find them too authoritarian and am opposed to any legislation of morality. I can stomach them more because I believe the Constitution will prevail in protecting us all from theocracy.

The Democrats are OK, but I find they are too loose with money, too willing to fund entitlements when we have more than enough, and now, too many socialist tendencies. In two words: too nanny.

I am a Democrat. I do not belong to an organized political party.

Do you vote?

Yes. Once again I'll be writing my choice in.

It's embarrassing to have to do it again, but Im not seeing a difference this round between the obvious establishment picks. My vote will be cast out into oblivion and I will once again have to walk the line. So be it.

Well, it's your vote to do with as you please.

I too will hold my nose and vote for Romney. In the past, I've always cast my vote for the Libertarian candidate, even if that meant writing in a name. This time, I feel I must do whatever I can to unseat our current President, despite my misgivings about Romney's big government leanings.

I respect TakeAStepBack's position, but this time, I'm voting R.

Exactly. Romney is not my choice, none of them satisfy me, but none are worse than Obama.

Yes, and after OBAMA allowed an attack on US shores, started a war based on lies, or "bad intel" and let tens of thousands of human lives to be lost, perhaps hundreds of thousands maimed, spent a trillion on his personal vendetta.............wait, that wasn't Obama, it was BUSH II.

I have never been in favor of the Republicans views on abortion if you feel abortion is a sin or crime against god let god deal with it. My biggest problem with the Democrats is their solution to every problem seems to be spend more money or create a new Government agency sometimes more Government is not the answer.

Talking points that you cannot support if you are interested in facts.

I can't seem to find in your response where told us what about the Democratic party your not pleased with. As for facts to back up my view on the Democrats Obamacare.

The OP asked for people to dish negative on the party that they belong to. You belong to the Democratic party AND the GOP?

I belong to neither. Which of us has responded more appropriately?

Yup. I was sort of hoping the indies would dish on both.

Go for it!

And, I'll add to mine that I don't like the anti-choice stance. Seems very contrary to libertarian ideals the GOP once had (Goldwater, for example).
