Ah, but the blessings of self government are far greater than the burden of personal responsibility.

Self government?

what is your deifnition of self government?

At least 1/3 of our population has a need to follow an authoritatian figure.
At least 1/3 of our population is totally incapable of runing their own lives successfully.

A socialist mind at work, wrong but working.

God made a deal with Lucifer. Lucifer told God that man did not need God and could rule himself. That little experiment is nearly over I think.

I think that's what we are all discussing. Or I hope that is.

we need the government for the BIG things;

roads, schools, military, police, fire

but for most everything else we can govern ourselves (or suffer the consequences)

I don't mind paying taxes to support the military and local police and fire and roads

but I don't need OTHER PEOPLE (or big government) telling me what to eat, drink or smoke

if I eat all the wrong things and end up in a very unhealthy state then that is MY FAULT and MY PROBLEM and nobody else should be made to pay for it

One may govern oneself, but that doesn't mean that other people will behave in an equally responsible or respectful manner - which is one reason why a rule of law is necessary.
