Can collectives make one dishonest?

I say this because a collective kind of gives you an "agenda" which therefore would cause you to irrationally react if you dont have an answer or explanation in the defence of your collective. Spin, lie manipulate etc
Idk just something i was thinking about on the ride home today..what do you think?
