Bellingham selectmen broaden proposed voter ID bylaw - Milford, MA - The Milford Daily News
As it currently reads on the Oct. 10 warrant, the bylaw stipulates that residents present photo ID, including a driver’s license, state ID card or passport, before voting in Town Meetings and local elections.
...
Selectmen Chairman Michael Soter drafted the initial bylaw, acting he said on calls from the public for more stringent election laws. And he brought it to selectmen with a specific goal in mind: to galvanize legislators into pushing for similar statewide voter reform.
"My hope is that this article passes," Soter said. "My hope is that it will send a message. My hope is that we have something to give to the state representatives and the state senators, saying our town has approved this."
"I think Bellingham taking a bold step is the right thing to do," he added.
