All that is is politicians who know they'll get more votes, money, and power saying what they know will result in that. Have had various gun bans in my lifetimes, yet not one ever prevented another shooting incident. Bans only effect people who wish to remain within the law abidding by them. but the guns still exist, and are still available illegally. And some mentally ill person intending a shooting spree probably doesn't take much notice of what guns are banned and will make due with whatever they can get ahold of.

Instead of manipulating people distraught over the latest incident promising some kneejerk ban that'll do nothing but win applause and some political cpaital, how about we fight the actual problem as with violence? We know the precursors of violence and have for over a generation. Add A, B, and C together in people, and D, E, and F become very likely. If we really wanna reduce gun violence, reducing the guns isn't the answer. We have to reduce the risk factors which lead to people cooking off.

So what do we do? Start by educating yourselves into the origins of violence. Lotta PhDs worked really hard to figure out the answers to this and still are. BUt despite making repeated contacts with politicians then as well as now, no one seems to wanna actually fix the problems.

Rational..... So how do we make the culture of violence in our inner cities less glamorous? How do we get kids to get a good education and develop a strong work ethic?
How much will this cost us?

Article from a local gun store owner after the recent shooting.

Hard to disagree

In an Oregon gun shop, President Obama's message does not sit well

Agree with the OP, haven't read the article yet but politicians throwing laws at gun violence just do so to present the illusion that "we're doing something".

Yeah, you're treating the symptom and ignoring the disease.

Glamour isn't the problem. Children raised by loving parents don't join gangs for a sense of family having it already.

Good point, I suppose, but the lifestyle IS glamorized by music and film. Case in point being sideways aiming of a pistol which started (with pistols) in films in the 90s.
The only gun where sideways aiming makes sense is a submachine gun where muzzle climb translates to horizontal arc that could hit more targets.
