Imagine what the San Francisco Bay is like after a rainstorm. All that shit and body fluids and solid stuff like contaminated needles is washed into storm drains and bypasses treatment plants.

Why is California being flooded by homeless ya dumbfuck?
You call me a moron yet you offer no solution.
I apologize for the insult.

Homelessness has many causes; however, as someone who's experienced the condition many times in my life unless you have family or friends within walking distance, moving is not an option.

For most of my working lifetime a single minimum wage job was all that was needed to rent an apartment and survive. That option ended within the last twenty years in spite of the Great Recession. Homelessness is just one more example of the cost of economic inequality in the richest state in the richest country in world history

One chart that shows how much worse income inequality is in America than Europe

"Problem is, most individuals who experience homelessness don’t end up that way because of mental health issues or addiction.

"The crisis in Los Angeles County — where nearly 59,000 residents are homeless — is truly the product of California’s housing crisis, where wages have failed to keep up with rents rising ever higher because of inadequate supply."

Income inequality equals homelessness? Is that the game the socialists are trying to play? The income inequality in Europe is lower than the U.S. because Europeans don't have as many opportunities (and freedom) as we are lucky enough to have in the good old USA.

You don't think becoming a massive welfare state that eliminated higher paying manufacturing jobs and had basically a stagnant income for more then 40 years has any affect do you? Taxes on taxes on taxes on taxes. so many of them. Hidden in all our bills and out in front. And we still have homeless. Obama even tried to get massive revenue from Obamacare and the PROGS who are younger did not purchase the insurance. And they want socialism! When those massive tax increases come there will be waiing by many.

Although only about 25% to 33% of the homeless are suffering mental illness or fighting addiction issues (according to local counts), some of the current epidemic began with a pair of governors (Reagan and Jerry Brown) who closed some state psychiatric hospitals in order to save money fifty years ago.

Inmates of those institutions were provided with a monthly stipend which made them victims for local thugs and con men.

I retired in 2012 and since that time the homeless population around my neighborhood has exploded.

The senior building I'm living in provides shelter for some who have been on the streets for decades, but putting a roof over their heads is a necessary but not sufficient condition for their treatment.

Don't forget all the endless wars and medical bankruptcies the good old USA provides as well.

Since 1980 the poorest half of the US population has seen its share of income steadily decline. "In Europe, the same trend can't be observed."

One chart that shows how much worse income inequality is in America than Europe

"In 1980, the top 1 percent’s share of income was about 10 percent in both Western Europe and the US, but since then, the two have severely diverged.

"In 2016, the top 1 percent in Western Europe had about a 12-percent share of income, compared to 20 percent in the United States.

"And in the US, the bottom 50 percent’s income share fell from more than 20 percent in 1980 to 13 percent in 2016.

So what does that have to do with home prices?

It’s always entertaining to see diametrically opposing leftist movements collide with one another. Now we have the environmental groups squaring off against the homeless advocacy groups, as California’s homeless crisis is leading to mass contamination of the rivers and streams. Rather than going through sewage treatment, human waste from the homeless is ending up directly in the water ways.

You don't think becoming a massive welfare state that eliminated higher paying manufacturing jobs and had basically a stagnant income for more then 40 years has any affect do you?
Wages have been stagnant (or worse) for a majority of workers over the past forty years, and taxes have become less progressive over the same time period.

One chart that shows how much worse income inequality is in America than Europe

"The income-inequality trajectory observed in the United States is largely due to massive educational inequalities, combined with a tax system that grew less progressive despite a surge in top labor compensation since the 1980s, and in top capital incomes in the 2000s.

"Continental Europe meanwhile saw a lesser decline in its tax progressivity, while wage inequality was also moderated by educational and wage-setting policies that were relatively more favorable to low and middle-income groups.

"In both regions, income inequality between men and women has declined but remains particularly strong at the top of the distribution."

So what does that have to do with home prices?
Supply and Demand.

"The official counts and companion studies of L.A.’s growing homeless population have consistently shown that most homeless people have lived in Los Angeles for at least 10 years.

"These are our longtime neighbors who were priced out of their apartments by rents that are rising faster than their incomes, or who were struck by some crisis that rendered them unable to keep a permanent roof over their heads.

"It may have been a job layoff, a divorce, a cataclysmic and costly health breakdown, an addiction. ..."

Hedge funds and other speculators bought up empty houses after the Great Recession to rent out at rates a majority of renters could not afford. As a result we have more vacant rentals than homeless people living on the streets.

Oakland Moms Who Occupied Vacant Property to Highlight Housing Crisis Celebrate Unexpected Victory | Democracy Now!

"In Oakland, California, a months-long struggle between a group of unhoused mothers occupying a vacant home and the real estate firm that owned it ended with an unexpected offer to purchase the property earlier this week.

"The major win in the mothers’ fight against homelessness and real estate speculation comes just a week after Wedgewood Properties forcibly evicted the families — known as Moms 4 Housing — from the home they were living in for more than two months."

Everyone with a brain recognizes the underlying cause of California homelessness, lack of affordable housing.

How do hedge funds contribute to that problem?

The Fed Protects Gamblers at the Expense of the Economy

"Hedge funds have been blamed for the 2008 financial crisis, by adding too much risk to the banking system.

"They have destroyed companies by forcing stock buybacks, asset sales, layoffs and other measures that raise stock prices at the expense of the company’s long-term health and productivity.

"They have also been a major factor in the homelessness epidemic, by buying foreclosed properties at fire sale prices, then renting them out at inflated prices.

"Why did the Fed need to bail these parasitic institutions out? The BIS authors explained:"

The thing I like about this video is that it lists each failed proposition and explains the damage they caused. The really sad thing is if you watch local politicians talk about the problems, they just say the homeless need to be offered more services and everyone claps. That is insane.
