California surfer uses food stamps to buy sushi and avoid work

So what's the answer to a small percentage of people that abuse a system?

What makes you think it's a small percentage?

If it sounds like small ball, it’s not. Last April, Eunice News (Louisiana) reported on brothers who own a pair of convenience stores and “defrauded the food stamp program out of $2.7 million and allowed customers to exchange their food stamps for alcohol, tobacco products, and cash.” While that may not seem like a lot by Washington standards, it would take a family of three at the current poverty level nearly 140 years to earn that much money.

1. They Are Ineffective at Reducing Hunger
2. They are Subject to Large Scale Fraud & Error
3. They Lack Transparency
4. They are a Form of Corporate Welfare
5. Food Stamp Advertising Emphasizes Enrollment over Need
6. They Overlap and Create Inefficiencies
7. They Lack Effective Work Requirements
8. They Create Dependency
9. They Have Become a Burden on Taxpayers
10. They Should Be Handled by States

TOP 10 REASONS FOOD STAMPS NEED TO BE REFORMED

In the scheme of things, abusers are a small percentage. Scrapping the whole thing isn't the answer.

Why bother getting a job when you can jam out, surf and enjoy sushi with your bros, thanks to government food stamps?

LOL, that guy thinks he has it "all figured out", one day reality with give him a hard wake up call. I saw a similar situation here with this guy buying rib eyes and other top notch food; he then met some friends in the store and invited them to a Super Bowl Party that was happening that day. All paid for by.................food stamps (EBT card). It was so totally ridiculous, that all I could do was laugh when he unabashedly whipped out the EBT card to pay for the steaks, chips, fancy cheeze, etc .

The guy is just one of thousands of freeloaders out there. Folks who could care less where that money that funds that EBT card comes from as long as they don't have to work and support themselves.

Hope the Welfare system crashs big time. Then we will see all those women with all those illegitimate kids going after the babys daddy for support for those kids. A good thing in my book.

Also freeloaders like this asshole will just have to get a job to support that sushi and Escalade habit.

The world you live in is not one based on reality. You want to see the welfare system collapse so we can have slums like they have in India and South America? That is what you want? You need to wake up to understand what happens in societies that have no safety net. Sorry if I prefer to not want such a horrible thing in this great country.

Defending free loaders.

I'm guessing you're in the tax bracket that pays no federal income taxes. Or you're on government cheese yourself. Which is it?

How 'bout neither, dickhead?

The Middle Class is being crushed. It's getting harder & harder to force them to pay for the massive Entitlements. The Gravy Train is going to derail. And that's when the real problems begin. The Collapse will force change. However, there will be much turmoil and chaos during the process of that change. It's gonna get real ugly. All i can say is, be smart and get prepared. Much darker days are ahead for this Nation.

When the takers finally figure out that there is nothing left to take, they will get very ugly. Again, I'm glad to be where I am, situated how I am. Reminds me, I need more ammo...too, bad the shelves are bare of what I need...already.

That's correct, and it's coming when the bottom falls out of the economy as Obama and the Democrats continue to dismantle the private sector, the capitalist system,(ultimately the TAX BASE) and still complain to the useful idiots whom hang on their very word.

The Government KNOWS this is coming, and are ready to take ultimate control.

Many folks had better wake up and be ready...things are getting very ugly. And I don't buy for one minute the media saying 'the economy is OK...it isn't.

How could it be?

It is if you're the kind of person who hates it on principle anyway.

From the link below:

"All able-bodied persons (ages 18-49) without dependents must work 20 hours per week (monthly average 80 hours) or participate 20 hours per week in an approved work activity or do workfare. If not, these persons receive only 3 months of CalFresh benefits in a 36-month period. There are some exceptions, so contact your local County Welfare Department to find out if you are eligible."

Me thinks this OP is full of bullshit.

Eligibility and Issuance Requirements

This is the same canard Reagan used with his infamous but non-existent welfare queen. It's designed to make stupid people focus on the crumbs the government hands out to poor people, so they don't notice the trillions handed out to large corporations in the form of subsidies & bailouts.

If you look at how much support government pumps into Wall Street, it's almost comical to read this garbage

Typical teabagger, thinks 1 = majority or significant number.

If you think he's the only libturd that thinks that way? Then you are stupid!

How many are there? Percentage of Liberals who do this compared to number and percentage of Conservatives who do this?

Depends on what surfer dude turns in to when he grows up, I suppose.

:dunno: White, semi-educated surfer-dudes are probably starting out leaning right because of Uncle Teddy and end up voting democrat 20 years in to a blue collar job they hate.

At least, that's how we did it in the 70's

Idiots like this thinks it's free food. They have no clue that someone has to pay for it. That, or they just don't care that they're saddling future generations (perhaps including their own children) with mountains of debt.

Actually I watched the whole program last night with Bret Baier, and the freeloader was asked what he thought about his $200. monthly FS card and that the taxpayer's were paying for it and the guy, after eating his lobster, just smiled, looked into the camera and said, "Thanks!"

just the kind of attitude that socialism produces...

reminds me of another beach bum.....

Obama.jpg

Have you made even 1/2 of the money he and his wife made BEFORE he was elected as POTUS?

Where has anyone, anywhere called for "scrapping the whole thing"?
That has never been offered. What we want is RESTRUCTURING.
And please join us in that effort as the current system is ripe for fraud.
No one should support the current system and no one that wants to change it is calling for scrapping the whole thing.

SNAP costs more than the 80 million this article claims.

entitlements should come with a minimum of a community service attached to them. if nothing else some type of job training and placement service activity

Someone has removed shame?!??!

The stigma attached to not being able to support yourself or your family anymore has been reduced to a shell of its former self. This attitude is evident from the left every time fiscal conservatives try to reign in the costs of welfare, or try to reduce the amount of fraud that takes place.

If it was about removing fraud, I'm would be all for it, but the track record from the right is just to cut benefits because of anecdotal evidence such as this. One person is abusing the system so we need to cut everyone off of welfare. That is the argument most often heard. It may not be your actual argument, but I assure you we have heard this argument made over and over again from many on the right.

Stigma is also needed so people do not become to comfortable on welfare. Our system is even worse as it penalizes people in some cases who want to work to get off it. The system is set up so you lose benefits in a series of cliffs when it comes to income, so say you get a $2k raise at your job, you may end up losing $5k in benefits.

Part of the reform needs to be scaling of the system to encourage people to get off it, but that goal is not in the interest of the government workers who run the programs.

CA law. See my link above. The OP committed the sin of omission.

Anyone living in real land, with the rest of us peons, knows that the economy is anything but OK.

Welfare should never, ever pay better than any job. That's part of the problem now, too many people find it more lucrative to receive public funds than to get off their butts and work.

Check the pdf...it states self-initiated workfare
Maybe his community service is teaching others how to surf.

I agree that this guy is a lazy, selfish moron. A steady job is not for him? Doesn't justify him leeching off the public tit. Find some work, dickhead.

I don't agree that the SNAP program should be done away with altogether, and nor do I agree with this line 'Taking government handouts for subsistence should be difficult and humiliating'. Not everyone on welfare is a lazy bum like this bloke, many are disabled, and you cannot humiliate them like that.

Cut this moron's welfare and force him to get off his lazy white ass and get a job.

Well you have the black pop that voted for Oblamer at 98% and easily you can say that 50% of them are on the system.

But I dont know one conservative that votes GOP and are living off the system.

You idiots on the left claim red states are more dependent on the Govt than blue but you also forget there are liberals in the red states that leech the system.

Atlanta is a good example. Its is surrounded by red counties yet the city is blue and get the majority of state and federal benefits.
