This is so shocking because California has always been the shining example of economic stability and responsible spending.

Give me a break. Quit blaming every problem on illegals. What about the lazy potsmokers who get unemployment? What about the high school dropouts who sell food stamps for drugs? They are building two. One from Victorville to Las Vegas and another, that didn't go to the voters from Bakersfield to San Francisco.

I don't think the fiscal problems those CA cities have is just about the illegals. The costs of providing basic services and meeting pension obligations cannot be covered. They don't have enough money for both, simple as that. Does CA have a law for declaring the entire state bankrupt? Dunno, that might have to go to the federal courts.

Is there anyone with any financial acumen and common sense left in Sacramento?

That's also what happens when your pension costs have ballooned so high that they're not manageable. Their problems are more on the spending side that revenue, there's no way in hell they can brng in anywhere near enough money to meet their obligations. But the lib/dems will never admit it.
