Cain Proposes Electrified Border Fence

I always wonder why people in the immigration debate not only want to stop the illegals, but they'd be down with hurting them, too. I always find that a little disturbing.

You make it sound like people want would-be immigrants to be injured just for the heck of it. And that is a dishonest view to take because nobody suggests it. Wanting an armed presence to protect our borders does not mean we want illegals to get hurt or killed. We just want our border presence to be sufficient to severely deter anyone from trying in the first place. There is nothing unreasonable about that.

There's a much simpler way to stop illegal immigration. Instead of trying to stomp on all the ants, you clean up the sugar.

As long as there are jerkwads in this country who hire illegals because they don't want to pay a fair wage to an American, we are going to have illegals trying to find their way in.

It's true that people willing to hire illegal labor contribute to the problem. But there are plenty of illegals who come in and obtain fake papers with which they can appear to be just as legal as anyone else, and still get a job from honest Americans who are trying to follow the law. Not only that, but there are a wide range of reasons people illegally immigrate into the US. Some come with the intention of committing welfare fraud and abuse. Some come as members of Mexican organized crime, are funded by their respective gang or cartel, and come here specifically to do the organization's illegal bidding. This illegal bidding can range from being a drug runner to being a paid assassin.

Successful immigration enforcement will involve both securing the border and enforcing labor laws.

And we can build an electrified fence with guard posts every five feet and be unable to stop that.

It will sure stop more people from having an avenue to come into the country. So that when we deport their asses they can't come back again.

The smart policy would be to simply go after the employers. If you are caught hiring an illegal, you pay a huge fine and are subject to inspections.

Because that by itself has worked so well already. :eusa_whistle: There's nothing smart about leaving the door open and not expecting the wildlife to come in.

And if you are caught doing it too many time, we take everything you own.

While I do agree that we need to have more firm workplace enforcement of those who hire illegals, I'm less concerned with punishing Americans over it than I am with punishing the illegal aliens.

NO shootings, no fences,no turning this country into North Korea. Just good competitive business that will benefit this country.

There's no benefit to the country to simply give illegals free reign to come and go and take jobs as they please. Your plan is absolute insanity. Our country would collapse and become overtaken by Mexico from within.

No, the immigration laws are not consistently enforced and you know it. Heavy fines for the employers would take care of the problem and the funds netted from the Fine The Employers Who Hire illegals Program would go to ICE and more Border Patrol.

Murder laws are consistently enforced, and often entail a possible death penalty. Yet we still have murders occurring on a daily basis. Maybe attempting to punish after the fact is not a sufficient approach. As Franklin said, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

A $10,000 fine for every illegal hired. That will cover the cost flying the illegal and all illegal family members to the most southern point of Mexico.

And what is that going to do to stop the illegals who obtain papers? Or the ones who cross the borders at just the right time to push out a baby so that they can't get deported? Or the ones who come to do work for organized crime?

They can be deported. But bleeding hearts will stand in the way.

They don't work because they aren't enforced.

Yeah, I think we've seen enough "conservative" ideas on that point. I'm going out today to replace my POS monitor for my computer that some "free movement of capital" had made in a third world craphole...

I lived in a town that had a real prostutitution problem. They'd bust the hookers and they'd be back out on the street the next night. Then they got the brilliant ideas to go after the real perpertrators, the Johns. Printed their pictures and names in the local newspapers. After that, this town stopped being a place to pick up hookers.

Same thing with illegal immigration. Go after the employers. They know they are hiring illegals when they hire them.

You really think those laws aren't enforced?

Are you honestly comparing prostitution to immigration? Really?
Don't like free movement of labor and capital? Guess what, you're not a conservative. Now go get your Democrat Party hat and march on.

There already is a $10k fine for doing that.

We have been doing the enforcement thing for 30 years now. It doesn't work When will people get the idea?

I think they both work on the same principle. You find a person desperate enough to do anything for money and a person evil enough to exploit them. They are both based on exploitation, when you get right down to it. Rather than pay a fair wage or develop honest relationships, you just find someone to exploit. Until decent people say, "Enough". that's what they did in that little town I lived in.

And sorry, guy, Capitalism isn't the be all and end all. It's actually not that great of a system, especially the crony capitalism we practice in this country. Clearly, the goal of Capitalists is to hollow out the middle class, and it will probably expedite the socialism that makes you wet your bed at night.

Cain Proposes Electrified Border Fence - NYTimes.com

Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain said Saturday that part of his immigration policy would be to build an electrified fence on the country’s border with Mexico that could kill people trying to enter the country illegally...

Mr. Cain added that he also would consider using military troops “with real guns and real bullets” on the border to stop illegal immigration.

The remarks were among the most pointed yet by Mr. Cain about illegal immigration, and they come as he is enjoying a surge in national political polls on the back of his victory in a recent Florida straw poll..

It is not the first time that Mr. Cain has floated the idea of an electrified fence. He has told the story many times of a caller to his former radio show who chastised him for talking about building a border fence, saying that such an idea was impractical.

“It’s going to be 20 feet high. It’s going to have barbed wire on the top. It’s going to be electrified. And there’s going to be a sign on the other side saying, ‘It will kill you — Warning.’” At an earlier rally, on the campus of Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, Tenn., he added that the sign would be written “in English and in Spanish.”

“This nation has always been a nation with wide open doors,” Mr. Cain said at the second rally. “We want to make it easy for people to come through the front door. And we’re going to shut off the back door so you don’t have to sneak into America.”

Goddamnit, Cain just earned my respect and general election vote. Yes, if he keeps this up than I may even send some money in the general. Wow!!! I hope the fence has 100,000 volts too. Put signs every few feet warning of course, but this is a really good idea. Fuck you illegals.

I don't like his 999, but this is good stuff. I like his immigration policies.

I thought of that years ago...

We have been doing the enforcement thing for 30 years now. It doesn't work When will people get the idea?

Except that we are really not. Doing the enforcement thing would be daily raids on the Day Laborers hanging around Home Depot, and then fining Home Depot for letting them hang around.

I'd go the OSHA approach. Give employees a 1-800 number to rat out their bosses. If you're right, you get a cut of the fine. That'll keep them on their toes.

Cain’s inane signs should also be in Portuguese, French, and Creole, not to mention the fact many immigrants are illiterate.

Cain’s so ignorant he doesn’t even know Congress would never approve such a fiasco, and none of his DOJ staff would sign-off on this insanity, unless they’re as ignorant and incompetent as Cain.

The entire idea is unconstitutional. Not to mention that killing people for a misdemeanor is just so wrong.

He's a piece of shit, imo.

Nothing but a fear mongerer. Telling that he has the support of the fearful.

Looking at this mess of an economy, are you really trying to claim what we are doing is just fine?

Now Cain is killing people?

And the constitution is being brought into this "fiasco."

I cant say I support 999 but I have no idea how it violates the constitution being a libertarian...

Quite frankly I believe all federal taxation is illegal but I'm intelligent and have a reason and evidence to support my facts...

No, but socialism is not the answer...

No, but socialism is not the answer...

There's never been a pure capitalist or a pure Socialist system and there never will be.

Both systems sound great on paper but they get mucked up when human beings get involved.

Capitalism sounds great on paper. Work hard, make a profit. Except where it gets mucked up is that it's just as easy to make a fortune poisoning the water supply as it is inventing the I-Phone.

Socialism sounds great, too. Everyone gets an equal and fair cut. Except where it gets mucked up is that human nature being what it is, if you already know the result, you just have no incentive to try harder.

So, Cain says on Meet the Press that the electric fence was a joke.

Yup. Just like the moat with alligators in it. Jeeze. People need to lighten up.

Troops on the border is a good idea. Let the illegals see a few humvees and armed troops on the border and they would stay in Mexico where they belong.

We do need a guest worker program in this country though. Canada has a good one and we should copy it.

Electrocuting people means killing them. Killing them without due process is unconstitutional as we are not in a war with Mexican immigrants.

Now I see he is pretending he was joking. What a weasel.

Glad you know he's only pretending he was joking.

I can remember when he was joking about a moat with some gators in it and loads of people like you took him seriously.

Weasle?? No more a weasle than the present occupier of the WH.
