CA votes no to raising taxes

Yeah, that's fiscally conservative. $21 Billion dollar bill coming due, but lets not pay it. :cuckoo:

Sound fiscal policies wouldn't have put them in the position. Seems the voters are starting to realize that. Time to cut spending, eh?

How about you provide a line by line of the CA state budget on what you'd propose to cut. I'm sure we could find some agreement, but I doubt it'll total $21B.
The state of Ca. is run by a bunch of liberal democrats...some ultra liberal...especially in the Bay area. They have been spending for years....the state income tax is one of the 2 highest in the nation...just how much more can the state tax its people? There comes a time where you just say we can't afford it right now. The dems just haven't reached that point. They are a very progressive state, but "progressive" is a very costly word. It no longer is a business friendly state, and businesses are moving out along with savy people...me being one.
The state unions are very powerful and are very demanding..but, the democratic politicians are in there back pocket. This mess is going to take a decade to solve, if they start tomorrow...but that ain't going to happen. There will need to be cuts across the board....for the most part. Make no mistake this is a very blue state, and that's not going to change anytime soon. The libs got them into this mess, and they aren't smart enough to do the right thing to get them out of this mess. There is no excuse for the democrats in the state of California

Yeah--it's called being responsible in balancing the budget by making the hard choices of cutting services--state employees, etc.

California was the highest taxed state in the union--but state government spent more than what they took in. Californians realized that if you give government more money--the spending just gets much worse. Kind of like our federal government.

The cuts in spending still needs to be worked on--but you can bet everything is going to get a hair-cut. Meaning state services--state employees will be losing their jobs. The size of California--it's not going to be real hard to find 21 billion in cuts.

the voters might be waking up, but we'll see
next election if they elect conservatives to the legislature

I Know what they can do tax all that money the Hollywood hypocrites make overseas. Why else do you thing they don't shoot movies in Hollywood any more? Almost all of it has to do with avoiding the twin tax bites of the federal and Californis Socialists...

Since you live there--I heard that there are some retirees of the state that actually collect $300,000 per year in "retirement"? I know there has been a lot of special interest groups getting paid big bucks--but 300K to one state retiree--is astronomical.

Let us know what you know--about the pork & other special interest projects that you thought was ridiculous. It would be very interesting to me anyway.

Dearest Harry Dresden.. It is not we you carry,, tis Mexico!

Dearest Willow....can you please tell the jerks in Sacramento that....they wont listen to me....im supposed to want to take care of all these people....its the right thing to do....at any cost apparently.....

Dearest Harry Dresden.. I will try,, but you know they will call us both racists and bigots..

yea there is that.....but you know what Willow....FUCK EM....enough is enough....hopefully the people in California will start realizing who is the actual ones screwing up this state, and have been for the last 15-20 years...and actually vote for the non-incumbent.....

Before you praise californians more, understand that almost 80% of their budget CANNOT BY LAW be cut, as they were voted on referendums.

These idiots vote for spending then refuse to pony up to pay for it.

The voters of California fucked up their state.

Nearly 80% of the California budget is uncuttable, because it was voted on in referendums.

By law, that stuff cannot be cut.

In short, they have nobody to blame but themselves.

So to re-cap, California thought that they were paying too much for energy so they capped what could be charged, drove all the energy companies out of business, starting to import the highest priced energy on Earth and Couldn't understand what happened.

They vote to do the most expensive option every time from pollution control to land use and to avoid tax increases. They refuse to develope and then tax natural resources. They deny the basic rules of mathematics that state pretty clearly that if you take away more than you add, you end up empty. Duh...

After it's all done and they find that the piper wants to get paid, they say that the Feds need to bail them out because they are too big to fail. They are obviously too something to succeed.

Cutting the spending will be a tough nut to crack for this state. You'd think that all of the Liberals who feel that it's patriotic to pay big time taxes would put together their own bail out. Come on, Jeannie G., rally the troops and git 'r done!

i've voted against the majority of those programs and can't fathom who idiots vote for those programs and then are astonished, i'm shocked i tell you, that the state is running out of money because the government keeps growing at a near exponential rate. it is one of the biggest problems with democrats, they want all these nice little programs, yet have no clue as to the cost of running these programs....its like they believe someone else will pay for it, or the government is an infinite money tree

California is a basket case. The people vote for programs then vote not to pay for them. That's ridiculous.
they are doing the same thing up here
every bond issue on the ballot passes(spending money we dont have)
and every time there is an issue on the ballot that would actually create new jobs, they vote it down

Maine is just as much a basket case as Cali, only on a smaller scale

AND....if an initiative is actually a good initiative, they will find a way to fuck it up,usually by going way overboard with it,they basically will turn it into something that is even a bigger problem, then the problem the initiative was supposed to fix....

no sir,, not entirely true,, if memory serves the voters of Ca. once voted to stop welfare to illegals and the ninth circuit overruled them (or some court).. as they often do,, sometimes the people are just screwed over.. the most recent example.. same sex marriage,, this is the second go around,, that the people have voted,, the first was overturned and I have no doubt the second will be also..

That's because people are too stupid to know that bond means tax in newspeak.

naw, they vote FOR the bond issue, but then vote against the tax to pay for it
