I've never used a cell phone in my life but democrats have decided you HAVE to have one and they're gonna make working people provide them for the bums.

Paradise Lost: CA to Provide Free Cell Phones for Homeless

by BREITBART NEWS 10 Dec 2012
In California, the unemployment rate may be above 10.2%, and the state debt may be above $16 billion, the state’s GDP may be in serious trouble and businesses may be leaving in droves due to ever-increasing tax rates, but that isn’t going to stop the gravy train for the state’s poor and dispossessed. The California Public Utilities Commission is all set to greenlight a new program that would give homeless and low-income people free cell phones – call them Obamaphones – with free service. The idea is to help them reach out to possible job opportunities and stay connected with family.

The state has funded phones for the poor for years, but they were always hardline phones, not cell phones. The new program will give beneficiaries some 250 minutes of time and 250 free text messages every month.

This is how democrats work. Give stuff to people and buy their votes.

California just voted to raise it's own sales and income tax. It's either beyond corrupt or people are beyond stupid. But California is full of crazies.

And the money was supposed to go to the schools not the homeless. Dumbest state run by democrats for 40 years.

It's California and it's not a fed program like the one that Reagan started for free phones and Boosh expanded. Now call them Reagan phones and let the burden of truth show you dumbazzes that it is repubs that give away free gubmit stuff also.

And how is the state going to pay for this new Entitlement program? Yep...MORE TAXES!

A hard line phone is not much use to someone who is homeless [no home]. Cell phones make sense.

By all means, get all the cellphones you like and give them away. Stealing from others to support your idea of benevolence is still theft, and it's wrong.

Now the government needs to give them housing; otherwise, they won't have a place to charge their new cell phones.

Government Subsidized Cell Phones To Be Offered To California's Poor And Homeless
A controversial program offering low cost cell phone service for homeless people may be headed to the Golden State.

The LifeLine cell phone program, already being provided by mobile carrier Assurance Wireless in 36 other states, is part of a national effort to expand expand telecommunications access to all Americans--even those living on the street.

"This is great--it is transformative for homeless and low-income people," San Francisco's "homeless czar" Bevan Dufty told the San Francisco Chronicle, noting that the phones could help the city's homeless call into the 311 information line that provides information about available shelter beds. "Fundamentally, to be in the mainstream of our society you have to have a phone...We really need this plan."

Participants in the program will only have to shell out $20 for a cell phone and pay ten cents a minute after 250 monthly minutes of free talk time. That initial payment will be refunded as a credit to pay for any overages. All Californians earning under $14,000 per year are eligible to participate.

Needless to say, this is a right wing LIE.

GAWD, is there anything the rw's won't fall for?

Its NOT free and California is not the first.

If the CPUC approves the cellular plan, California would become the 37th state to begin participating in Assurance's discounted cell phone program.

Nationally, the Lifeline program has come under fire from some Republicans, who cite it as an example of government largesse. Opponents have labeled the devices "Obama phones," even though the initial program was created under President Ronald Reagan and expanded to include cell phones during the George W. Bush administration.

Okay, rw's, you can go back to lying.

Oh, and before you start whining about the link, there are another three million links at google. Feel free to choose those you like.

Wouldn't it make more sense in the Californian way of thinking to just give every
homeless person a home?....

Oh wait.... I am sure Mayor Moonbeam is working on that now...
