a trigger-happy warmonger, a nuclear madman and the candidate who couldn't win," Mr. Goldwater recalled.

However, nothing could be more than the truth.

As he had been during the Korean War, Mr. Goldwater was bitterly critical of what he considered to be a "no win" policy in Vietnam, and he was an early advocate of bombing Hanoi and laying mines in the harbor at Haiphong, positions that were called outrageous at the time.

He ended racial segregation in his family department stores, and he was instrumental in ending it in Phoenix schools and restaurants and in the Arizona National Guard.

A fascist? Hardly. He was another pro-liberty freedom loving person who was attacked unmercifully by the left.

Gulf of Tonkin led to the Wars Powers Act which gave the President more power and leeway to wage wars on whims. It actually legalized war for 90 days.

The War Power Act allowed people like this to wage fucked up wars for his cronies' gain at the expense of liberty and economic prosperity.

Yet, use the War Power Act for another war for oil.

Goldwater a warmonger? I don't think so. His opponent, LBJ was, and his actions has led to even more useless war for profit by the bureaucrats, bankers, and corporatists at the expense of the people.

AuH20's character was savaged by the media, without doubt.

Who knows how this nation might have been different had he been elected?

AuH20's character was savaged by the media,

Thanks anti it is always fun to take a look back. I have mixed feeling about Goldwater but he would have been better than Reagan.

Goldwater backed Reagan after he lost to Lyndon Johnson. Would he have been better than Johnson would be the question.

Goldwater had the habit of putting his foot in it. His VP candidate, Bill Miller, spent most of his time running around saying "What Barry meant to say was..."

Goldwater also opposed the Civil Rights Act.
